Nano-vision was overnerfed

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:30 am

That's all I have to say.

It is now almost entirely useless at almost any range.

Make it stronger and double its energy cost. That way people who want to actually use it can-- at a price. As it is now, the people who simply didnt't want to learn a new skill and wished nano-vision wasnt in the game have pretty much won.

I've played around with it a bit in game a bit. Did they reduce its range? All I've noticed is that often people at a distance aren't lit up by it.

I haven't played the game yet, but I'm actually glad about it as long as it's not ridiculous. Nanovision was pretty much mandatory in the demo if you want to compete, even if you don't want to use it, it definatelly needed a nerf. Just hope they didn't over do it anyway, but if they did it's better off like this now than it was before.

And what in the blue hell is surprising about that?

It means exactly what I said-- they overnerfed it. The original complaining was slightly justified, but did not warrant this extreme of a response. They've literally taken an ability out of the game.

Now it's only good for seeing cloaked players (that are near you) properly so you can shoot them more accurately. It'll only be used when you know there is a cloaked player around. It's **** for situational awareness now unless you're fighting mid-close range.

^ That's a good thing then by the sounds of it. I haven't played the retail multiplayer yet but that sounds like how it should be - mid to close range. It was ridiculous before because you could basically see on the other side of the map.

It was a great nerf. If I'm playing capture the relay on Libery island or the other one (can't remember) and I'm in the ruins or some other close range quarters, whenever I round a corner I put up nano vision and maximum armor cause people love to sit in corners with invis up. It works great, it should not be a utility for sniping, there is a module for that.

I agree. In the demo you HAD to have it on all the time, otherwise you were at a serious disadvantage.

Now it's used for what it was supposed to be used for, e.g finding cloaked enemies in your close vicinity.

At first i thought it was a bug that Nano vision cannot see people from far distance, I loved the way Nano-vision worked in the demo, but in retail its kinda bleh (only useful in close diistance). I don't know, I used alot of nanovision (demo) to track where people were cause its impossible to see cloaked ppl from a distance and to track down annoying snipers, now its impossible to see where snipers are with the nano-vision

The distance isn't so bad, its the god awful crappy glow that you get with bloom/glow effects enabled. It makes it god awful for tracking, only time I can use it is on really dark maps.

PLEASE. LET. US. DISABLE. GLOW. AND. BLOOM. EFFECTS. KTHX.

in my opinion the demo was pretty much better than the finished game ...
the nanovision was just a helpfull part in the game ... sure ... you could see everything .. but if it use everybody where is the problem then?... i mean at the moment you have no chance to detect a cloaked sniper on his sniping position ... and THAT is overpowered .. give us the nanovision back! with a higher energy loss
and everybody will be satisfied.

disappointed greetings

Couldnt agree more.... The nanovision was the thing that made crysis 2 different from the others. It's totally useless now. Cloak-players want the nanovision removed, and non-cloak-players like the nanovision. Now the game made cloak more advantgeous while ripping the heart of nanovision. There should be a between thing, like making the nanovision like it was on the demo, but draining as much energy like cloak-mode. I dunno how the thermalvision works in real life, but i suppose if it cant spot enemies from the other side of the map then it shouldnt be displaying heat from objects from a distance as well. Correct me if i'm wrong here.

All and all it should be like rock, scissor, paper. Crytek just turned the scissor(cloak) into a chainsaw and the rock (nanovision) was degraded into a boneless chicken.

Nanovision should only see like 20 or 30 feet. It should be alternate sight, not super-sight. It should realistically be the choice between seeing far and seeing invisible. Normal sight needs an advantage over nanovision. That's usually how thermal vision works in games. It should also be useful in tandem with armor, not in place of. If it drained as much as cloak did, you'd have to choose between seeing your enemies or being protected from them... which doesn't make sense.

The perk that shows bullet paths is what you should be using to track snipers, if that's the issue. Otherwise, just stay under cover and move with cloak. What you don't want is snipers using nanovision effectively. You shouldn't be able to snipe with it on.

That said, I haven't had the chance to try it out yet in multi. Could be it is overnerfed. I'll fiddle with it when I get home and report back.

Thanks for posting this thread, I thought my nanovision was broken because enemies are not lighting up the way they did in the demo. At least I won't be trying to use nano vision now and it getting me killed. I switch it on looking for a sniper on the Crashed Spaceship map whatever it's called Downed Bird or something... He's hiding in the corner somwehre I switch on nano-vison I see fires all around and not a single nano suit in sight, turns out he wasn't even cloaked when he prepared to take me down in the kill-cam. I jsut couldn't see his sorry ass. Oh and this wasn't at excessivly long rage, I was using the Feline.

-.-

Goddamn, stop giving Stealth players more power. I like lvl 21, with only a lvl 3 stealth I want to be in their faces dealing damage not running around like a pvssy bich from tree to tree.

How do you, "Over Nerf" Something? Don't you mean over power? Fail.

Nerf means to weaken, usually for balance. "Over nerf" would be overly underpowering something, and creating a new imbalance by making it too weak.

Im pretty sure i die a lot from people using Nanovision. i dont get what the problem is as im always in cloak. Use your NV more efficiently?

I personally dislike NV and think it just hinders my gameplay

Honesly idk what to think about nano vision. Well im not in MP now as I cant even get into the damn game. From the demo I would say its impossible to balance out nano visions as we'll always complain that u can see too much or too little.

oh btw when i turn on nano vision the suit voice seems to lag like 1 second after u turn it on. But from what i rmb in the demo it says it immediately.

At first, I was shocked too. But I've been using the nanovision regardless and I find it really, really useful anyway. It probably was overpowered before. Maybe overpowered isn't the correct wording... Overused, I would say is the keyword here. And now, it's pretty much perfect.

The trick is to use it when it makes sense. That's close range. When you think there might be an enemy around, cloaked or not. I've still gotten a ton of kills with the help of it. Maybe even more so than before, since I'm no longer using it while engaging long-range targets (which puts you in a visual disadvantage somewhat).

Man there is no middle ground with Nanovision sadly :( If you make it long distance, then snipers have an advantage, but on the other hand, so do you (when looking for snipers.) If you don't make it long range, then snipers with a good eye (or just a high resolution screen) can still shoot you, but you won't be able to see them.

Wait, maybe long range was good idea?

Nah long range was over powered for snipers, but it should be definately of longer rage than it currently is. In terms of distance in Pier 17 say. From the Sniper building at one side to the Sniper Mall at the otherside, this range is too great, but from the Mall to the boat in the middle, this is a good range. Currently what you see with nano-vision is far less range than even this.
