Nate vs Nora

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 7:30 am

So who you think deserve to be the survivor and the main character of fo4

me personaly think that nate deserve to be the player cuz he fought in the army and have more combat experience

and anyway it makes more sence that a male will be the main character here cuz in a world like that looks too much for a woman to handle

Nora has the better voice actor and it'd be a welcome change to see a woman become more of the main face of a game. Too many dark haired men get the spotlight in games as the main character.

Ah, lovely, baseless sixism. Women can handle the wasteland, women can handle a lot of things sometimes even better then men! Yes it's possible!

Same but still I think if they use a figure to sell the game use Nora. Bad-ass female mascot that can clearly handle the wasteland would be cool to see on posters.

maybe but i dont know make a pretty woman like nora being a bad ass in a world like fallout will make it look like a marvel comics super hero woman that doesnt make much sence

the warrior type is more for men not for woman...

You're trying entirely too hard bro.

But I will say that it is a bit of a mystery why Nora comes out of the vault as such a combat ready person. Not because she is a woman but because she is a Lawyer. I mean sure one could reason that perhaps she got some basic combat training from Nate, but how that suddenly propels her to being able to take out seasoned Mercs and other combat hardened figures is a bit odd. Then again the same could be said of previous vault dwellers, from fallout 3 and 1, fresh into the world yet ultimately they become hardcoe combatants that topple military organizations and friggin cadres of super mutants..

She can do combat because game, to be honest. I never needed a reason for my characters to be somewhat sufficient at what the game is designed for them to do, but that's a rant for another day.

While I like the male voice actor apparently a lot more than most people here, I still think I'm going to have to go with the default female, although Bethesda will never establish as much canon as the Vault Dweller's name and gender. But the story really works out well from the perspective of a mother.

I like both of them. They're pretty awesome in my book. There needs to be a third option in the poll that says, "I like both of them." >__>

Just out of curiosity, but why do you think the story works better for her?

I am not sure what to make of this topic?

Why not have an option for both characters favorites? I like them both. If anyone remembers that old TV show JAG, they were lawyers in the US Navy Judge Advocate General's office. That might explain how she got her training?

Her being a military attorney might actually explain how her and nate met, also how she paid for college.

didnt added both option cuz you can only choce 1 anyway the question is which 1 of them you really use at your playthrough

by the way i really dont understand what make people to claim that the VA of nora is better then nate

Fair enough. I am playing as both characters, but probably more as Nora. That doesn't mean I like Nate less - Mr. Delaney did a good job voicing him but it is easier for me to play as a woman.

I just hope Bethesda doesn't see polls like this and limit our choices to just one protagonist in the next game.

That would actually be awful and a technical nightmare that would probably break the engine.

They killed her husband and took her son! She's going to tear the Commonwealth apart.

Let's just say she's "highly motivated" and a quick learner.

Plus she found the collected works of Sun Tzu, Clausewitz, Napoleon and George S. Patton in her husband's library.

I picked Nora for several reasons.

1. She is voiced by Courtenay Taylor. I love her voice and I am most familiar with her voice from Mass Effect 2 and 3 where she voices Jack/Subject Zero. Every time I pick an angry or sarcastic response in Fallout 4, I hear Jack from Mass Effect.

2. Nora's background gives her the least likely chance of surviving the wastelands. Not because she is a woman, but because she is a lawyer. Her familiarity with combat and weapons may possibly be from what she learned from Nate. So for me it feels like more of a challenge for her to survive. Nate might not feel at home in the wastelands but his training would kick in. I know its not any more difficult in reality to play Nora vs Nate and its just all made up in my head... but it makes sense to me. :D

3. I enjoy playing female characters.

1. No-one particularly 'deserves' to be alive or dead.

2. Combat experience or otherwise has no bearing on being caught holding the baby.

3. Dumbest point I've read on the forum for a while, congratulations for lowering all our IQs...

These are the two reasons I play the female SS in this game. Just much more badass for the female SS to be killing things like supermutants and synths. The male SS just seems too cliche to me.

I actually think Nora is the better of the two, despite maining the male SS. Better acting, and better emotional investment imo.

A few of the other posts covered my opinion, too, but a big part of it is just that you never really have a game where you can play as a mother. There are tons of games that explore the concept of fatherhood, and technically nothing actually changes between the two genders in Fallout 4's dialog and story, but I feel like it's more interesting to go through it as a mother instead of a father. Especially as a ruthless and vengeful Mama Eagle sort of character.

That's what I liked about playing as Nora as well, the opportunity to play as a vengeful mother in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
