National Cultures

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:45 am

I'm bored and the forum is quiet. Mix that with the fact that we still have naught but somewhat informed speculation as to the location of TESV and you get my current idea. Let's make a big thing on the national identities of each race in TES. Now I know what you may be thinking, "Isn't it in the instruction's manual?" Yes, but in tiny "why you would pick to play this race if you didn't know the lore" blurb form. I'm talking in-game info and obscure stuff for all ten playable races of TES, even the ones in places that have been done, but those are just for fun. Let's study some fictional cultures!

So we have:

Cyrodiil (Colovia and Niben):

Skyrim:

Morrowind:

Black Marsh:

Elsweyr:

Valenwood

Summerset Isle:

Hammerfell:

High Rock:

Orsinium:

well, let's get going.

A compilation (I suppose) of ethnic, national, and provincial lore/information. Cultural study, like he says. I'd post some stuff, but I've got to work on a job application. And then some.

Morrowind is the homeland of the dark elf, which makes up quite a lot of different power wielding factions such as: the great houses, the temples, the different tribes of the ashlanders, the dark elf nobility, and so on. Beside this factions, which originate in morrowind, there is a lot of factions from cyrodill, like the imperial legions, temple of the nine divines, the blades and so forth. There are somewhat an antagonistic relations between the "factions of cyrodill" and the natural factions, though the nobility of morrowind is more or less vassals of the empire.
There are also a lot of factions with more obscure, neutral-like or defuse complexity and agendas like the thief guild, mage guild and other guilds, which appear most interest in the common-wealth of the members and the guild.

Morrowinds culture is dominated by deadra-worship, ancestor-worship (ashlanders), and the worship of the tribunal (in th temple, right?).

Orsinium is awesome.

Especially because it doesn't exist politically, yet everyone knows, including Wayrest, that Orsinium owns everyone.

I hope that helped newcomers to the series some, it answered many of the lingering mysteries in my head.
