National Novel Writing Month

Post » Sun Jun 20, 2010 8:57 pm

National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is a sort of "contest" in which you are to write a novel of 50k words or more during the month of November. Full novels are due before midnight on November 30. I'm starting this a bit late because I nearly forgot. November came up way too fast. If you start today, you need to pound out 5k words. I've already started mine and am at about 740, but the day has only just begun!

Visit the official website and sign up, read the rules, and join in the fun!

If you're joining, post your username in this thread so we can keep a list for people to add to their own buddies lists.

I've decided to do my NaNo on the history of the town that's going into my Equipment mod. I've been needing to write NPC dialogue and this seems a good way for me to get background stories into place. That's why I'm starting this thread here, because I want to see if any of the rest of you want to give writing a Fallout story for NaNo a shot. We'll breathe creative life into this forum! It'll be fun!

We can use this thread to cheer each other long, give pep-talks, help each other with plots, give and recieve criticism, all those fun things.

Let's get this thing on, people! You should post your story in a story thread so everyone can enjoy it, too. Plus, it helps us keep each other to our goal. Threads that aren't getting updated need some motivation! When you post your story, I'll add a link to your thread beside your name. I've not posted mine yet because I want to at least get the 5k words out to be mostly caught up before I do.

Ach this is nearly 10 pages single-spaced and not quite 5k words yet (though almost!). I forgot how long 5k words really is. I hope I don't break the post size limit when I post this svcker. I need to add another 1500 words too since it's now, officially, the fourth.

You can still do the NaNo, though :) If worst comes to worst, I'll sign up for you and submit your novel at the end of the month. I've had to do that for friends before.

50k words? Are you serious? So... Writing 50,000 words about one single subject that has already been milked to a massive extent...? Well, interesting challenge, I would join but... I really have to concentrate on my personal stories more... If not for that, I'd join in a heart beat.

Well, I'm doing it on the history of a town I've created.. the stories of how everyone came to live there. You have to think of it more as a novel and not milking one subject. I've done personal stories for NaNo in the past, the only rule is you have to start November 1st or after (no using already started stories) and you CAN use collaborative works, but you, personally, have to write 50k words in it.

Honestly, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds. If you do 2k a day, you'll finish ahead of time and I can do that in an hour or so if I'm really in my zone.

Maybe it's just I like to write :(

Just so you know, there's a thread for NaNoWriMo over in CD. They have a lot of fun with it, or at least they used to. Doesn't seem quite as active this year. Last year's was a blast though. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I don't have the time to write anything of that length at the moment. I could churn out 50000 words easily enough, but I've been having a hard time writing efficiently lately, and I have a feeling anything I would do would be crap.

Ah, I never go into CD, mostly because I'm not usually interested in what is going on. I am interested in what is going on in here :)
