Nature of Beothiah

Post » Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:55 am

The dunmer refer to their "good" daedra as ancestors. I've always thought this was a metaphor, but reading around, I can't help but get the feeling that the dunmer at least believe that they truly do descend from Boethiah. Godsblood was first mined and worked into armor in Boethiah's time. What's that suposed to mean?! What I can't help but wonder is this...

To anyone's knowledge....

Was there any time in history in which Boethiah actually walked the face of nirn as a chimer? Veloth was his herald... I dunno. Just kinda' musing over the idea I guess.

Gods Blood is Ebony, it splattered all over Morrowind when Lorkhans heart crashed there.

Boethia made an apperance when Trinimac tried to stop the Velothi exile. She swallowed him whole and [censored] him out. Then he became Malacath and his followers equally disgraced and dishnored became Orcs. True history of the Orcs or something.

Dude, I know what godsblood is, I was asking what "Boethiah's time" was. LOL. I know the lore on Boethiah and Trinimac, I'm just wondering exactly the relationship with traditional dunmeri worship. I know the Trinimac thing implies that he/she has come to nirn to aid the dunmer before... but do they or do they not believe he walked among them (as one of them) at one time, because it sure sounds like they do. I guess I'm just wanting more lore where no lore exists. God they need to finish Fallout so they can start making TES5. I'm having new lore withdrawel. LOL.

Hah!

Forgot to add that since Ebony is only found in Morrowind, it must have happened when the Velothi arrived in Morrowind. So probebly the whole part before the Tribunal.

Veloth was the prophet so Boethia didn't make regular appearances or he wouldn't need a prophet.

Yeah, but he's also called the herald of Beothiah. That makes things very confusing. Heralds announce the arrival of someone or something.

True. Like I said, I'm probably wanting there to be a connection where there is none, since I'm tired of talking about Ayleids. LOL.

Anyway, as I understand it...

Beothiah is the ancestor of the dunmer in that he/she/it guided Veloth in his founding of the Chimeri way of life. It is, in that respect, that Veloth is considered a "Boethianic Messiah" (I made this phrase up; feel free to laugh, but bile rises in the back of my throat everytime I start to say the word "Beothiahrine" so I won't) for his people, and therefore related, if only in spirit, to the great daedroth. Possibly Beothiah walked like Veloth... ;) Which would mean that since the Chimeri (and therefore Dunmeri) culture descended from Veltoh, the dunmeri people "descended" from Beothiah. Ancestor in a non-literal sense.
I'm just saying if you read on it, it makes it sound literal, rather than figurative. I was just wondering if there was more to it that I haven't picked up on.

Or, maybe, I just wanted to start a new thread since all the ones on the first page have been done to death. LOL. Whatever. My question's answered. Thanks guys.

P.S. Just in case you were wondering, yes, Boethiah is my favorite daedric prince, even though we know little about him/her. I'm a dunmeriphile, so of course I like the "good" daedra, but Bo-bo's my favorite. Dunno why.

From the 'ancestor and the dunmers' book, one can get an association with ancestors outside of hisdirect bloodline (the example was given of marrying into another clan/house. The spouse gains a link by association with his new house. They Boetiah ancestry can be seen in that light, not ancestry by blood, but by association.
