NazoX9's Undead: Liches

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:59 pm

Forgot to note that this is a release in the title.

This is just the first part of what will hopefully be a few more mods to change the undead in Morrowind. I decided to start with the liches, because I consider them to be a bit more fun to work with. I'd really appreciate some feedback on this one to help me with future mods like this.

============================================== NazoX9's Undead: Liches Version 1.2 By:NazoX9==============================================INDEX:-> Requirements-> About this mod-> Installation-> Known Bugs & Issues-> Version History-> Contact Info==============================================REQUIREMENTS:==============================================Requires Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon==============================================ABOUT THIS MOD:===============================================Just a change to liches in Morrowind. Now,there are three different kinds of liches. Thelesser lich, which is essentially the same as the lich from Tribunal, Normal Liches, whichare a bit more powerful, and the ancient lich, which I'm hoping will be a bit of a challenge.Liches will now carry a random enchanted woodenstaff, summon undead, and are armed with morethan just a single shock spell. There's also asmall chance that when you encounter an Ancientlich it will be carrying a more powerfullyenchanted deadric staff. The ancient lich willalso summon a bonewolf while simultaneouslyrecieving a chameleon effect, so they might bedifficult to keep track of in some more hecticfights. There's also an optional folder that will givethe regular lich mesh a bottom jaw.===============================================INSTALLATION:===============================================Extract the files into your data files folder, and enable it.IF you want to use the optional new lich model, just put the meshes folder inside in your datafiles folder as well.===============================================KNOWN ISSUES OR BUGS:===============================================No known issues or bugs.===============================================Version History:===============================================1.2 Fixed a little issue where the ancientliches wouldn't hold the staffs.Gave a few new spells.Added the liches to some vanilla leveled lists.1.0 Made 3 different kinds of liches, randomenchanted staffs, more spells, etc..Changed all static lich spawns to a leveledlist that will spawn one of the three lichesdepending on player level. Also, added the other 2 liches to base gameleveled lists that had liches in them.===============================================Contact Info:===============================================NazoX9 at beth forums.NazoX9@gmail.com

Wow, very nice work, the Lich looks legit. To give specific feedback, EVERYBODY who plays these games knows what a standard Lich looks like. A nasty robe wearing fleshy skeleton, yours on the other hand is much more unique. The idea of a lich looking like it doesn't even need to cast a spell to kick your butt is a good concept. I like that it looks more like a warrior than anything else, and the missing jaw was a nice touch. If I ran into one of those I'd take caution, also, I like the textures and the messed up look to his armor, makes him look scruffy.

Great Job.

Well that's just the ancient, which is the more powerful. The other two still use the same model. It's actually just the mesh that was used for barilzar towards the middle of the tribunal questline with a few bits removed.

I'm sorry, I dislike the design. That's only because I prefer liches to be more cloaky.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great mod and very well done but the like of a cloak/garments kinds of bothers me.

Now if you're trying to say the ancient lich is like a demi lich (much more powerful lich), then you have done that.
As in the ancient liches are basically "[censored] kicking mother *****ers from Hell". But I still miss the old cloak/cloth on it.

Well done though.

The lesser lich, as well as the regular lich still look the same. I just wanted people to differentiate between those, and the ancient. I wanted it to really look much more, well, ancient than the other two, so I gave the other two a bottom jaw (optional mesh install) and took out his, and gave him a much more ratty look.

Oh no, you misunderstand. It looks great. It's just I'm used to liches being arcane user seeking to prolong life and think that they would still wear robes and whatnot.

Whereas the ancient lich is basically a lich that has been a lich for a long time and thus had his body degrade so to speak.

If you know anything about demi liches (as in their appearance), were you going for something like that? As in degraded but the intelligence is much more than a standard lich?

That's kind-of the thing I was going for with it. They will cast very powerful spells, have more powerful staffs, etc.. Never really heard of a demi-lich before though.

Demi liches are basically liches that have been around for so long they only retain a shell of they're former physical self.
Think rotting bones, skulls barely hanging on, essentially a broken corpse, eventually they'll just be a floating skull, though most can posses other bodies (usually dead ones).

But the thing about them is they're really freakin' powerful, like blowing up cities powerful.
And they're tough sons of guns too. Anyway, it seems to be good, are you giving them spells yourself or using standard ones?

I made the spells for them myself. Instead of them just having that one shock spell, they'll summon undead, shield, absorb health, as well as use touch, and target spells from the destruction school.

Of course. I'm always open for suggestions of how to improve on these things. ^_^

Paralyze and the following would work Demoralize Humanoid/Creature.
Liches generally had a paralyzing touch and could project an aura of fear. The reason I pick the Demoralize spells is that if you have companions/creatures with you it would work on them. Or maybe even a simple 3 second AOE paralyze might work?

It would really be to affect the PC's summons/companions.
If you're using paralyze, is there a way to make it so the lich only uses it once or twice?
Also, is there anyway that you can make it so the ancient lich has some form of resist to normal weapons, maybe even complete like the ghosts?

And what would be ingenious I think would be drain certain things, say X amount of points of health? Or better yet a percentage.

Mind you I haven't actually fought a lich in quite a while so so of my requests could already be made.
I'm not a modder so if any of these things are too difficult, sorry. :P

See, liches are basically a wizard that's undead but still has all the wizard's memories, intellect and so on but with all the time world to do whatever. So I'm thinking maybe give them a spell or two that a human would use?

I mean rather than a simple shock, skeleton summon and melee. Maybe have infinite summons? As in programme it so that they'll summon more undead after the summons are killed?

They will resummon their undead after they're gone. It's not really possible to have a scaliing drain spell that would take a certain percentage of health. As far as I know, there's also no way to make it only capable of casting a certain spell a certain number of times.

I was actually thinking of doing a demoralize kind of thing, however I forgot about the whole companion thing, and didn't do it since I'm pretty sure spells like that don't work on the PC. I could put something similar in however.

I've also given the liches a 50% resistance to normal weapons, and I believe it was a 25% resistance to magic, although, it may have been 50% as well.

Got some new spells in, as well as fixing that I didn't have the Ancient lich set to use weapons. I might make a few more tweaks to this, as well as work the liches into Morrowind's leveled lists.

as long as the ancient lich doesn't have spells that do hundreds of damage in health. that's what most mods do that add ancient liches. make sure the lich has regenerating magicka so it doesn't run out of magicka so fast.

I didn't want to do that with these, they will do a bit of damage, but it's not going to be that powerful. I also gave them a magic regen, so that when they do run out, they will use their staff, then switch back once they have enough to cast again.

I'm going to play this ASAP. I'll take any opportunities for new magic duels thrown my way. Speaking of companions, I don't know if this would be possible, but a hostile Command spell used on a companion would be NASTY.

Perhaps a command humanoid spell would work like that. Anyone done anything like that before that can confirm that it works?

Finally got the updated one of these uploaded.

Fixed the ancient liches not using their staff when they ran out of mana. Also, added some new spells, and put the liches into the regular leveled lists that were appropriate.

I've been working on a new version of this with some new features. First one will be very noticable. The Ancient liches will now unleash a spell when they're killed. As of right now I'm thinking of having it be shock damage, and blind. The shock will be an area of 30 feet for 45 damage, and a 30 second blind within 50 feet. This will add some danger to killing them around other things. Take into account though, that the ancient liches won't show up til' around level 50.

Other than that, the only thing I've really been considering is tossing in some new spells, or possible some other scripted effects, but I'm not 100% sure of what I want to do with it yet.

I'm very close to releasing a very large update for this mod. Including more variations of the lich, upgraded spells, and a few surprises. I'm really wanting to make this the best it can be, so I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has played with this. Things like are the lich spells too powerful, too easy, etc. I really want this to make taking on a lich challenging, but not so hard you want to uninstall this mod.

Here's what I have so far. I'll include screenshots now since there is a bit more than stat changes this time through.

Liches (in order of level)
http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/NazoX9/Netherlich.jpg (for some reason transparency isn't showing in the CS on his chest. Have yet to see if it's like this in game as well.)
http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/NazoX9/Lesserlich.jpg

http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/NazoX9/Lich3.jpg
http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/NazoX9/Ancientlich-1.jpg

I'm planning on adding different looking liches in before the final product is released. Again, I'm looking for feedback on the current version of the mod, as well as feedback on the looks, and ideas anyone may have for more looks.
