NCR or Ceasars legion?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:41 am

Should I go with the NCR or the Ceasars legion? On my first playtrough (not very far into the game but started over cuz i wanted to switch to guns) I went with Ceasars legion, never been to their main camp, and since I noticed they do not have a lot of outposts, I wondered, which quests go deeper or are more fun? The NCR or the Ceasars Legion quests? As there are so many NCR outposts, I guess there are more NCR quests, since when I killed loads of them NCR I got quest failure mark the whole time.

so which one should I go with?

Thanks.

If you want to have any gameplay at all, you're practically forced to go with NCR. The Legion is just sad.

NCR. The legion camps are way to far away for a low level player to get to.

I haven't finished a Caeser game, but in my NCR and House playthroughs, there are simply so many NCR outposts and installations, compared to... what, Cottenwood and The Fort, plus maybe a little bit with the Khans... that isn't much compared to NCR.

You can't really be "evil" without having to shoot almost everyone you meet... you can't even just be a thief... but that's a problem with most RPGs.

There's absolutely no point in siding with the Legion at all. it pains me to say it, but that's the truth. They're undeveloped, have about two or three side quests not related to the main one, and everyone seems to hate them.
On the other hand, the NCR has lots of quests that really make you feel as if you're part of them, there are many named members who all have a rank and a story. On the whole, they're far better developed. I suppose this is to be expected, as they were present in Fallout 1 and 2, but still.

I've completed two playthroughs: one Legion the other NCR. Throughout the Legion game I felt as if I were forcing myself to do it, and it was difficult to make my character believe in them, despite the fact I crafted him a personality to fit their cause. On the other hand, with my NCR character, it felt so much better... more realistic. He could accept that they weren't perfect, but they were better than the alternative.

It just feels throughout the whole game that Obsidian either did not have the time to flesh out the Legion, or they want you to fight against them. There are plenty of examples, on both a large and small scale. For instance, with the Enclave, you can convince Moreno, a man who truly hates the NCR for more than one reason, to fight with them... but there's no way you can convince Johnson to fight with the Legion if you side with them. Just little things like that, they're present all throughout the game.

In short, if you want a rich, rewarding playthrough, join the NCR.

I sided with Leigon because...well...I liked their armor. XD

I don't think there's a way for me to redeem myself to the NCR folks, sadly. :( Oh well, more skill points for my guy.

My next character will follow NCR...if I ever make the next character.

Not that this is a bad game, mind you, but the fact that my first character is so epic and I don't want to start over just yet.

I sided with the Legion once I complete all NCR side quest. They don't know what hit them until Hoover Dam.

If the Legion actually provide more for low level player, or invade across the river after certain quest. than they would be really tempting choice as you can loot off NCR troops without any risk.

...never been to their main camp,

On a side note, I'd been planning to try an evil/Legion playthrough at some point.... until the main quest in my current game led me to the Legion main camp. Between the
Spoiler
well dressed trader with his attending female slave, the female slaves struggling down the hill under packs that would crush a Brahmin, etc, etc, etc

I was hard pressed not to open fire right then and there. Didn't help that I had a female character.

Heck with nuking Megaton just because it spoils your view - these guys are scum. :stare: So, no.... I won't be trying a Legion playthrough. Doubt I'd be able to go through with it.

For me the only 'grey vs grey' moral conflict here is between either Mr. House, NCR, or an independent Vegas. Caesar's Legion is nothing less then totally evil. While Caesar might have noble intentions, the Legion doesn't. People under his rule act like they're raiders with some restraint, they only follow Caesar himself, not his ideal or philosophy. Plus Caesar's banned on the use of medicine so the weaker and 'unworthy' members will all die is simply post-war Nazism under a Roman flag. There is no way that I will support them.

Don't side with either. The house always wins, friend.
