NCR ''Desert'' armor

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:14 pm

Hey guys,

Well, everyone knows that New vegas is released very soon and I was thinking about the NCR ''desert'' armor. The armor was only shown once in a video and we only saw the helmet. In contrast, she is the trademark of the game, being featured in the cinematics and on the front cover of the game. I'm wondering if this armor is rewarded only to the player or if she is given to a small elite task force of the NCR. My personnal opinion is that she belongs to a small elite force of the NCR

What is your tought about this armor, except the fact that she really kick ass?

The way I see it, theres three ways to get it. Kill an NCR Ranger
Side with NCR Rangers
Lure a powerful creature to said Ranger, let him die. Kill other creature, its a win win for me.

You can probably kill one wearing it and loot it.

We've seen in recent videos a character wearing "NCR Ranger Combat Armor" which is the armor you are talking about.
We've also seen some NCR rangers that aren't wearing the armor. I think only certain Rangers will wear it.

Yeah, but doing so you get the whole NCR wanting you dead or tossing you down hoover dam.

Considering it has what appears to be a water backpack, I'd assume it's 'scout' oriented rangers, IE if they are sent scouting or sent to defend a position for a day or two where water will be rationed.

Maybe you can get it from joining them.
Or you could always reverse pickpocket.

Yeah, looks like there will be 2 varieties of Ranger Armor. I wonder if they depend on the rank of the ranger or not.

Or if you are really desperate and on the PC, you can use console commands...

Not that I am going to do that. I think it's obvious you will eventually get the armor when working with the NCR, so I'll wait until then.

Well, I think the most important thing is that they don't turn out like the BoS knights in Fallout 3, these guys looked impressive but they actually svcked.

I'm sure you'll get when you're with CL too, considering all of the killing you will do to NCR. Though the armor would be pretty useless unless you are trying to infiltrate them because your own allies will shoot at you.

I wouldn't say they svcked, I thought they were pretty awesome, but there was definately alot of untapped potential in terms of armor designs/rankings.

They did svck compared to the original BoS who were one man walking tanks and could take shed loads of punishment.

Indeed, except for the Lyon's Pride with the small Logo carved on the shoulder.

Well that has more to do with the Defense system Bethesda used on Fallout 3.

No, they svcked, as in they svcked in combat.
Seriously.
You're in Power Armor and you're using 5.56mm assault rifles and 10mm SMGs?
Occasionally you have a laser rifle or a minigun? Power armor is supposed to help you use big guns. If they have an Assault rifle you might as well give them combat armor or let them wear recon armor.

And then the Power Armor, oh man, the Power Armor. Now, I actually like the design of the T-45d, but it's pretty dumb when you can take a .32 revolver and kill a BOS Paladin with it. Then you loot his armor and see it has a DR of 9. He might as well have been wearing raider armor, in fact it probably would have been more protective.

to be honest... i never really cared about that stuff i just liked the looks lol but if they made the power armor actually work like it should that would be pretty cool... maybe someone could make a mod for it?

Actually no. The part of the discussion is actually about http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Grenade_machinegun armor (the one in the screenshot of the guy w/ grenade machinegun). That's the only in-game shot I could find. The only other time I've seen it was in concept art. Personally, I like the tan armor better than the stupid trench coat/bug helmet armor. The problem is that it looks badass everywhere but in-game.

Can someone explain the NCR armor to me? There is NCR uniform for soliders, NCR mantle armor for soliders, then there is the former-hermes armor for NCR Rangers, and the tan football armor for NCR Ranger. Is that right? Also is the bug-eye combat armor that Arcade wore for the NCR?

Yeah, but I just hate thowing myself for my BoS teamates who have power armor and big guns so they may survive, and after being called a Wastelander. It's kind of : ''We don't recruit anymore'' , ''Hey, I just saved your ass, I can't join your organisation and your Initiate Reddin who got an 60. I.Q has been recruited? Sorry, I just hate that part of the game.
