NCR MP Gone AWOL

Post » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:05 am

I started a new game a few days ago and I've been just working my way to level 20 to start Dead Money which I just recently got.

Now, I've been going with the NCR for the most part. I haven't crossed them, and I am, in fact, listed as Idolized in the reputation window.

However, I just walked into The King's School and was greeted by an NCR MP, who initiated dialogue with me saying something about how I should have paid dues to the NCR and that now I am going to pay for what I had done, then he attacked me. I killed him easily enough, since he only attacked me with a cattleprod, but it was strange that he attacked me in the first place. I didn't lose or gain any karma or reputation for killing him, though now my NCR faction status is only "accepted."

The only thing I can think of for this should still not be possible; When Vulpes confronted me on the strip, I saved the game, reverse pick-pocketed a grenade on him and killed him, but then I thought I'd rather have his wolf hat, so I reloaded and let him live. I only consider this a possibility because when I had killed Vulpes, an NCR trooper was caught in the blast. But again, I reloaded the save and decided NOT to kill Vulpes, so any negative impact for the NCR should have been erased.

I don't want to be wandering the wastes only to be attacked by NCR Rangers at level 6 :/

I should also put that I am not running a single mod for the game.

You saw an NCR MP in -Freeside-? Might want to reload.

Technically, he wasn't in Freeside, but The King's School of Impersonation. The indoor cell only.

True enough. The NCR aren't scripted to be in the King's place though.

Re-reading the question it seems as though you've done bad past deeds to the NCR. You sure you've never killed one? Although usually a group of rangers are sent. Somwthing about a hostile NCR MP screams potential random glitch.

That guy pops up anywhere once you've gotten Don't Tread on The Bear!

Then it has to be a bug, because I don't have Don't Tread on the Bear yet. As I said, I was Idolized by the NCR before I had to kill this guy.

If you're ever confronted by this renegade MP, just pay him, because even if you kill him in stealth-mode, all the other MP's are gonna get on your case sooner or later.

He didn't ask for money. He meant pay as in with my life. I had no options in dialogue with him, he just spoke two lines to me, then attacked without any input from me. :shakehead:

No other NCR MP or Trooper is hostile to me, and I am able to continue on with Crocker's quests, so I don't think it's gonna come back on me.

I had this rogue confront me right inside the embassy, directly after speaking with ambassador himself. I was on great terms with the NCR, no faction armor on, none of the stuff that could make this kinda thing happen. Out of the blue, he comes running in the door while I'm trying to flirt with Crocker's secretary. I have no choice but to kill him. I don't want to leave the cell while he's aggroed, so I off him right in front of the ambassador and the secretary. I holster my weapon and look around to see the repercussions: Nothing. No one cared. I gingerly go outside to see if the other MPs are aggro. Nope, again, nuthin'. I've never seen another MP since. It's just gotta be some serious, but random and isolated bug.

-Gunny out.
