NCR: heroes or thieves?

"Legion ruling peacefully" means that the women are pvssyl, dissidents are crucified, boys are taken from their cribs and turned into human monsters, science and knowledge are forbidden and society is tossed back into the dark ages.

Yeah. Real good job there.

The Dark Ages didn't ravage the planet with nuclear warheads, so it can't be all bad.

Poll needs more options. The NCR is an attempt to establish old world government. The same form of government that nearly destroyed the world pre and post war. Not saying democracy destroyed the world, it's the governments of the world that nearly destroyed the world, waging their endless petty wars. If the NCR were to last for a few hundred more years, and other people have formed old world influenced governments similar to the NCR. Then rest assured these governments will create another great war, although not on the scale of the original great war. The NCR is already on that path, by forcing their ideology and government onto people, then taxing them senseless to fund their expansion i.e. wars.

These governments, once they encounter each other may meet on peaceful terms. As time passes, both governmental factions may begin have huge divides in ideology. Which could lead to border disputes, resource disputes, isolated regional conflicts. Which will then lead to bigger conflicts, until eventually the possibility that after a few hundred years of these governments, one or both could have gained a weapon of mass destruction, which would be used on the other faction. possibly causing the attacked faction to retaliate using their weapon. The rise of NCR type governments, will certainly be the destruction of the continent or planet again one day. People need some kind of governmental structure, but clinging to old world forms of government will once again destroy it, given enough time.

I think that Boone has the right of it, when you ask him about the NCR. He knows they're not perfect, and he hates what he did at Bitter Springs, but he still believes in what they're doing. Boone does not strike me as a man given to blind worship of the NCR.

The NCR is far from perfect, but there is no perfect system of government. The NCR forbids atrocities that the Legion condones, it prevents the sort of anarchy that would follow an independent Vegas, and it tries to ensure that all of its citizens have a voice, unlike House.

Yes, amny of their actions have been despicable. Show me a government that can say otherwise.

What "voice" would one need in House-ruled Vegas? He has no desire to dictate policies that intrude on how people live their lives.

They are certainly not heroes, their intentions are probably better than some of the factions, but they commit crimes all the same. A thug is still a thug by any other name.
