Even the Legionaries say no one has ever defeated a Ranger in single combat after killing the Ranger girl in the arena.
A ranger has never met the likes of a centurion either. A piece of ranger gear is even a part of the centurion's armor.
But yeah, realistically the edge belongs to the Ranger Veteran. Tying pieces of armour together is scary but ineffective, their preference for melee would be foolish unless they got the jump or were at close quarters (bear in mind they are trained to fight as such and would be happy to face off against a rifle at ten feet).
So, unless the centurion gets the jump or has very good cover on approach I would think the ranger veteran would have a consistent advantage.
Do I need to remind people that a veteran's armor is old LAPD riot armor and jeans?
