[WIP] Necessities of Morrowind 2.2

Post » Mon Nov 08, 2010 11:53 pm

_Taddeus_ I spent all day "shopping" for upgraded sfx files and have come up with several hundred. The next step is I'll be going through orgainizing and grading the files before I come up with a pack of a dozen or so to send to you. Before I do, do you have a specific length of time in mind for each of the sounds you sent me? I remember you mentioning that you wanted them longer. I have a definite upgrade to the eating sound, which the original reminded me of the eating sound in Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein. Plus, do you want me to capture a full sound set, such as the sound of a spatula scraping the pan while cooking eggs as opposed to a simple soundbyte of oil sizzling? I'm so excited to help, and can work on it more later this afternoon.

Several hundreds? :o
As for the length of the sounds, I think that it should be somewhere between 2 and 5 seconds, with different sounds having different length. Other than that, I have no specific requests on the sound length, so you can edit them as you like more.
If you can really build a full sound set to give different sounds to the cooking of different dishes well... it would be awesome! :D

PS: I used originally that eating sound because it's like the one from "Exile: Escape from the Pit", an old RPG I played many years ago and that I liked very much. :P

Well, I could add that the current "hunger" sound for males is very similar to the pain sound of DooM! :P

Well, after revealing that long list of foods I can also say that most of them are already done (model, texture, icon). I know I showed only bread and pies, but I'm kinda lazy when it comes to uploading images and creating links... :P
However, here are some nifskope shots of the new cookies!!
http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy227/_Taddeus_/NOM/CookieDibella.jpg?t=1273012176 - New model, the old version was a retexture of the ash salt.
http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy227/_Taddeus_/NOM/CookieLuck.jpg?t=1273012177 - New model, the old one looked like a chocolate thing, while this one shows the apple slice as told in the recipe.
http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy227/_Taddeus_/NOM/CookieSaltrice.jpg?t=1273012178 - New local cookie. :D

What do you think? :)

Taddeus, I know this is going to sound weird, but can you make the ingred_bread_01_UNI3 (The infamous muffin) a NOM compatible food? I have this little mod that makes the muffin into a muffin, you see, and LGNPC adds a little quest to find muffins, so there's even more in the game. I have always loved NOM and I can say how thrilled I am that you've decided to update it. It's a stock ingredient after all. Please?

The Saltrice Delight kinda reminds me of one of those Rice Krispie marshmallow cookies. I love those things!

Ha, I just ate and it STILL made me hungry. I had to go get something sweet.

Honestly, based solely off the models in those screenies and not the atmosphere where they'd be placed, the first two don't appeal to me.. though they are good models. However that salt rice cookie made me want a bite!

People might hate me for this after all this food talk, and I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before - forgive me if it has! But is there scope for food to have negative effects in the same was as the alcohol has? You could get indigestion, for example, from eating too much or using ingredients that aren't really supposed to be 'eaten'. Or eating that piece of bungler's bane could actually really do you some damage, like a real poisonous fungus would if you went into the woods and ate everything. Just a thought...

I agree with you  The first two no longer look like cookies to me and the old models are the reason my characters tended to stock heavy on the sweets when in the wild (they all developed sweet teeth and prefered cookies and pies over chicken legs and beef).

The link for the "Dibella's Cookie" image is broken, and can't be viewed. The site gives a "404" error.

The other two look pretty good, though.

I can do that easily. But I have a question: if the muffin is a quest item, are you sure it should be edible? I mean, you're at the quest giver with all those muffins in inventory, ready to gather your reward, when suddenly... CRUNCH! :o On the other hand, that could be fun...

NoM scripts eat only what you need, so the character never risks an indigestion. Even with the planned manual eating functionality, NoM will stop eating when you're sated.
The other idea you propose (more severe effects if you eat specific ingredients) is interesting, but unfortunately is not part of the NoM purpose. Bungler's bane and other poisonous ingredients are not edible and so NoM doesn't mess with them. :)

I agree with you  The first two no longer look like cookies to me and the old models are the reason my characters tended to stock heavy on the sweets when in the wild (they all developed sweet teeth and prefered cookies and pies over chicken legs and beef).

So retextured salt is better than my models? I could get this as an offense... :P

Yes, I'm messing a bit with the model to make it look more like a classic cookie. I was uploading the new image, but I suddenly had to leave... here it is:
http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy227/_Taddeus_/NOM/CookieDibella2.jpg?t=1273081439
It still needs some tweaks, but the general idea is there.

The Good luck biscuit is different from the classic cookie on purpose. It is a rare dish (in the update you'll be able to buy it only from the Food of the gods restaurant) and it's meant to be more like a little cake than a cookie.

I'll post new screens soon! :D

I never thought of that! In the quest, you actually get two, and only one is required to complete it, but if you don't get back to the quest giver before you eat them both, you're screwed. Personally, I get around that by using the Alchemy Storage Helper by scruggs (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1649). Anything in that sack is off-limits to NOM eating scripts. You know, realistically speaking, an adventurer would definitely keep their food separated from their general inventory. Especially since things like bungler's bane are poisonous and cookies tend to crumble. I wonder how difficult it would be to make a satchel or something to hold NOM foods out of the inventory until the PC is ready to eat them? Or possibly only eat foods that are IN the satchel?

Actually, I've often thought eating an entire ham at one sitting should at least cause my PC to be a little sluggish. Maybe you could add some sort of penalty to athletics or acrobatics when the PC is forced to eat something particularly heavy?

Well, I'm sure you're deep enough into this that implementing completely new ideas is not very high on your list of things to do. You've done an excellent job so far. Even a small patch for the muffins would please me to no end. You could even send me a little how-to so I could make it myself, if you think that might be an easier solution.

The previous screen didn't look much like a cake to me either and my characters main diets were indeed dibella and good luck biscuits. Along with the occasional pie, including rat, my characters had a truely unseemly diet :) I'm sure they'd love a cake or twenty added to the mix, along with ice cream and Princess Stompers and Emma's candy :D

I don't want to add penalties on foods, otherwise nobody will buy them! :P I could add some beneficial effects to some food among the most hard to find/cook.

Well, I'll add the muffin to the list of edibles then. I will allow the PC to eat them only if you have 2 or more, so you've no risk of eating quest items...

Just wanted to let you know the first pack of sounds is on its way to you. I was afraid you would think I flaked out on you so I'm sending out basic sound replacers for those you sent me. The more elaborate sounds I want to work on more. Also, if you wind any are too long or too short for your taste, just let me know and I'll tweak them as needed.

I think that would make just about anyone horribly ill! :yuck: :hehe:

How about having partly-eaten hams, much like the waterskins? Ham is supposed to be preserved food too, it would be nice if you could set off into the wilderness with long-lasting foods like that.

Speaking of ham, it would be nice if you could make a sandwich. You've got breads, meats and cheeses which are all great things but when I'm stepping out for an afternoon stroll from Balmora to Seydra Neen all I'd need is a quick sandwich in my ruck sack for lunch. Right now my character usually will take a slice of the ol rat pie but as I imagine it getting squished around in her ruck sack on the journey - it can't be all that appealing.

I think the bonus on rarer foods is a great idea! Yay, muffins! *goes to search through her new Pegasus Estate for the muffin oven*
