[WIP] Necessities of Morrowind 3.0 - Thread 2

Unfortunately, there are no potatoes around. :)
Maybe I could use "Stringy Pie" or something similar.

There are ash yams, which would suffice.

http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy227/_Taddeus_/NOM/CheesePie.jpg?t=1274274932 - A salty pie based on imported cheese. If anyone can suggest a name for this one that doesn't contain the word "cheese" I would be grateful, because I've already the cheese and corn pie and I'd like to avoid repetitions.

Oh my, that totally looks like a http://www.google.com/images?client=opera&rls=en&q=quiche&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=f4n0S4PoAoOC8gajpKXyDQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=5&ved=0CEIQsAQwBA and there are a [censored]e ton of eggs in Morrowind ;)

I'm glad to see you working on the new food models - they are simply awesome and much needed. I think I might even get my characters to eat a few things other than sugary treats now.

For the meat and potatoes suggestiion - there aren't potatoes but there are yams and aren't yams in the potato family?

Also crab meat! It's everywhere on that island! Even more so than cliffracers at low levels I'm forever running into http://www.bing.com/recipe/search?domain=recipe&type=listing&q=crab+&qpvt=crab+&FORM=Z7FD1 and going "so sad I can't cook this into something tasty" as shellfish is such an expensive delicacy in RL and I'd LOVE to gorge on it in game. Crab cakes and lump crab meat in a delicate pasta concoction, and there's nothing like a delicate crab filled dumpling sitting in a delicate and delicious lobster bisque! Mmmm.... If I can't have sandwiches can I have more crab pretty please!

Oh and Abot's water life has ducks, and geese and sea turtles and sharks (all edible in RL) an island culture should have lots of sea food after all, look at Japan. Mmmm seafood...

Uh, what is Sentinel Stilton?

Sentinel is a place in Daggerfall, Stilton is a popular English cheese. I thought both those things were common knowledge, but I suppose not.

It's probably a no-brainer, but you're updating the textures/meshes for the apples, oranges, pears, bananas, onions, watermellons, coconuts right? The apples and pears look rather octogonal as of right now.

Apples particularly need some work, since well, they kinda look like tomatoes. :P

Taddeus, here are the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8092 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=72392&id=8096, both by Lady E. It'd be nice to see these in your mod. I'm sure she'd be happy you used them.

Also thought I might toss out a request to see Korona's Better Looking Liquor, Drugs, and Vials utilized in the new version, since you are upgrading a number of the graphical aspects of things - I think these might be a real nice resource to include with it. I also wanted to chime my favor of a method of an equipable set of eating utensils or some such to force the eat scripts if needed.

Yes, it's true, I could use ash yam. Shepherd pie, eh?

The new ingredients from abot's mods (turtle meat, bird meat, goose egg and green alga) are already in my WIP version with all new models (thanks abot for giving me permission). Turtle meat and green alga are sold by fishermen and used in a couple of recipes. Bird meat and goose egg are not added to the world, but the scripts recognise them for eating and cooking.
As for sea food we have: crab meat, crab meat and scuttle, roasted fish (new), grilled fish, fish in salt crust, lemon fish, cyrodiil fish, crab omelette, seaweed soup (new - with crab meat), turtle soup (new).

Sentinel is a place in Daggerfall, Stilton is a popular English cheese. I thought both those things were common knowledge, but I suppose not.

Ah, so Sentinel is refered to the place. I was thinking that Sentinel Stilton was some kind of famous guardsman.

Watermelons and bananas are already in the NoM 2.14 release, I could add coconuts to the next. However they will not be added to the game world, but only supported by the scripts in case someone wants to do a mod including them. Lady E gave me her permission to use them years ago, so I suppose she would agree if I play a little with them.

Manual eating is the big challenge of this new release. I'm leaving it for last, after all the rest is completed.
As for the local brews, I like the vanilla morrowind style, so the best I can do is to add some polys to the current models to make them look smoother. I'll use the vanilla texture so it will be compatible with texture replacers.
For wines and beers, after building the cookie jars I wanted to try my hand at the bottles too. :)
However I will look through Korana's mods to see if there's something I can use, thanks for the suggestion.

That's fair. At least if they're in the construction set, people can place them wherever they wish. And adding them to a merchant's inventory is easy, as I've learned. You just place the coconut in the NPC's inventory and make it a negative number as to how many of that item you want him/her to sell. Or they can be placed on the table and give it ownership to the merchant so that when the Player buys it, it disappears off the table.

@Red Eye
Why should Taddeus incorporate Korana's stuff when it can all be found http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27167?

Because, if memory serves me correctly, they conflict. Now, obviously this can be corrected with a little work on the players end, but if there is an upgrade going on that strives to improve the graphics out of the box, why not make an integration of the works and save people a little effort (much the reason for Taddeus using any other resource someone might point to). Obviously, this isn't some kind of major upgrade, just a nice aesthetic that I think would blend better to the enhanced graphics used by most these days (especially something like Book Jackets labeling all the books and such).

The new foods look tasty!

The racers morsels made me laugh. They're totally pillsbury sausage crescent rolls, Morrowind-style.

I second DarkDiva about the cheese pie being a quiche. Plus it would be nice to have more use for eggs, since eggmining is so widespread. You'd think the Dunmer would have found more recipes to prepare them, considering commoners in ashlands seem to eat them at every meal, every day.

Hehe, so many lovers of crab meat. I'll save that rangoons idea for a later update though, if I keep adding things I'll never finish this one!! :P

As I said, I'll take a look at Korana's models. If they fit with my idea of wine, beer and local brews I could include them, otherwise I can try making new bottles myself.

Oh, sorry about that, I was actually just answering Tes96 as to why I mentioned it in the first place, wasn't trying to hound you about it by any means - sorry if it seemed that way.

Are Kwama eggs really equivalent to chicken eggs though? I mean, the Dunmer eat them a lot, but are they cooked in similar ways? Do they even have hard shells, or are they more leathery like the eggs of some reptiles and insects?

Don't worry. My last answer was very fragmented, so I simply thought you missed it in the confusion. :)

I treated kwama eggs and chicken eggs in a similar manner for simple dishes. For example, you can make a hard-boiled egg with both of them, or an omelette. But when it comes to complex dishes (pies and such) you'll require a specific egg type to cook them.

I learned something today: although the word 'quiche' is commonly thought to be French, it is actually Mayan. Quiché is the name of the Mayan people of south central Guatemala and also refers to the language spoken by those people. I agree with DD and brenas, if the pie is made of egg and cheese, it should be a quiche, though even now that I know the word is Mayan, it would still seem odd to see it in Morrowind. If you feel the same about the word as I do, you might just call it an egg and cheese tart.

If the pie was meat, ash yams, and cheese, shepherd's pie would be a good name.

If it's possible to make an omelette with kwama eggs, it wouldn't be too far fetched to be able to make a quiche withthem, since it's basically just an omelette on a pie crust or bread. Plus the model really looks like a quiche.

It's generally agreed in french dictionnaries that the word "quiche" comes from german. Lorraine used to be german-speaking.

I stand corrected. The food is definitely of German origin; it's just a coincidence the Mayans had the same name. Hmm, now I wish I could remember where I read it so I can go and correct them . . . just to make myself feel better.

My understanding of Kwama eggs is that they are egshells filled with maggots. If you see the ones in the mines, that's what they look like.

There's already a pie in NoM based on cheese and eggs (it's the corn and cheese pie) and I don't want to introduce "duplicate" dishes. So I think I'll go for the shepherd's pie. Wow, it took me one day to make this decision! :P

Ugh, opening an egg and finding it filled with maggots would be sooooo disgusting. Let's say that the kwama eggs used for cooking are in early stages, when the maggot hasn't developed yet. It's like chicken eggs before the chick.

any guesstimation on a release? No pressure I'm Once again starting a new and had added NoM to the load list for the first time and was thinking of waiting. I also have a house mod that sorts NoM ingredients that i will be updating for your new additions. The new additions look great along with the updates to meshes and textures Take your time no rush!

Just saw this over in the MCP thread, might be something to consider if possible:

After a quick test, the 3rd person PlaceAtPC fix works perfectly for my tents. After some investigation, I discovered (as I should have realized to begin with) that the NOM firekits use placeItem, using only x,y,z, and Zrotation with no distance offset. As long as that is the case, I can't see any possible 3rd person fix unless all objects dropped in 3rd person are placed at some mandatory distance. It's probably not a desirable fix in any case for this particular object.

Hehe, no release in sight yet. I'm proceeding quite well but the work to do is still a lot. I keep jumping from modeling to scripting to world editing to writing to... :bonk:
I should find the time to make the opening topic into something that shows what I've already done and what not, so that everyone can know.
However, you can start your new game with the 2.14 version of NoM. The new version is far superior to the one you have, but at least you can get an idea of what to expect.

Just saw this over in the MCP thread.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind should I need to PlaceAtPC something. :)
