Necromancer's Guild

Being a Necromancer would be good fun, maybe you could even raise an undead army to go around with you sort of like Diablo 2.

I want to be the King of Worms, and turn into a demilich, then I'll be nearly impossible to take down.

There could be a necromancer perk that needed a certain skill in conjuration

Amen to that!

On topic: A supposed necromancer guild shouldn′t be "evil", but opposing the mages guilds ban on necromancy (if the mages guild is still about). If there is no mages guild, then it should be a guild trying to seize power and become the dominant magical organisation. And necromancy shouldn′t be frowned upon, except maybe from the church. The guild should be sinister, cold and maybe powerhungry, but not evil.

Aldas: Demiliches... Really?

sounds awesome BUT this would also mean the mages guild quests probably will include fighting necromancers - just like in oblivion. not that it was boring or anything, i really enjoyed those quests. but id like some change ;)

psssssh, demiliches can manipulate bodies and do a lot more than that, the person that wrote that had no effin idea about what he was talking about. Demiliches in DnD are nearly as powerful as gods.

A necromancer guild would be so great!

I'd love it if joining the guild was a pre-req to some of the nastier conjuration spells. "Good" conjures get to summon natural wild life (or maybe "good" spirits?) while evil conjures get to summon demonic types and undead.

With so much emphasis on necromancy in oblivion, I always wondered why the wasn't a necromancy quest line for an evil mage type.

As others suggested, a necromancy guild would be a great opposing faction to the mage's guild.

Ehh, it's probably a subset of crafting. You have to build the skeleton warriors you know.

That would be cool too. Maybe enchanting? Enchanting a dead body with a soul?

yeah you could use soulgems for it maybe once youve enchanted it with a black soul gem it transforms into a ghostly shadow of the npc's soul that is a good idea

I'd love to have a Necromancer's guild. I tried to find a mod for Oblivion that did something like this, but none really did what I wanted. If Bethesda did this properly it would make me that much more excited for the game.

Why does everyone assume the Necromancers Guild would oppose the Mages Guild?

Just because someone is a Necromancer dosn't mean they are evil.

If the necromancers guild had to oppose the mages guild I wouldn't join. I'm a necromancer, but I want no part two factions meaningless squabbling.

Edit:If they were a bunch of emo goth kids talking about evil things like the Dark Brotherhood, I wouldn't join either.

First off, emo and goth have nothing to do with each other, that's like saying look at that hippie gangster kid over there, or that nerdy jock; they're completely different. Second of all, how was the Dark Brotherhood either of those? They were supposed to be a crazy cult of murderers, how are they supposed to be? I'll admit that Vincente's comments on how the PC is a 'dark gift from the Nightmother herself' were creepy and weird, but other than that I don't see it.

No and here's why
Why did I say this? It's very simple, I'm sick of people desiring an organization based solely on necromancy, as opposed to it being sanctioned by a legitimate magical organization. Furthermore, I can guarantee that the "Necromancy Guild" (which is silly in the first place, please look up the world guild already!) will be turned into an organization based on practitioners who are nothing but stupid evil and puppy kickers, and will inevitably try to destroy the new version of the mages guild, which is almost as bad as it being full of stupid evil people. Frankly, I find that to be INCREDIBLY boring, and highly predictable.

Necromancy doesn't automatically make a person evil, it's only a tool like all other forms of magic. It only has more taboo because, the practitioners play around with dead bodies, which upsets certain cultures. Also to note, necromancy as a whole, during the Septim empire, was legal (save for MW, but that's a different issue). Hell, nobles and monarchs would sponsor necromancers, not only to most likely keep them on some leash, but also to curtail bandits and criminals. In addition, the Septim empire sponsored necromancers, and often donated fresh corpses of bandits to them, which they liked because they were often young and strong.

As such, make it a legitimate school of practice, instead of a bunch of puppy kicking, stupid evil guys in some weird cult. And no, there doesn't need to be this [NUMMIT] stupid necromancy hunters again, known as the Mages Guild. That was...ugh, it made me want to completely destroy the Mages Guild and Mannimarco.

[NUMMIT]! There isn't even a Mages Guild! It fell when the empire fell, and two magical organizations popped out from it, the Synod and The College of Whispers.

Even if they changed guild (why the hell would there need to be an guild of necromancers? To control the number of them and the practice thereof? Psh) into cult, I find the idea revolting at best. Too many people think it's nothing but EEEEVIIIIL!!!! and "lol LICH PWNZ!" and it's getting sickening.

Not to mention the [NUMMIT] Septim empire sponsored necromancers in Cyrodiil and gave them fresh corpses of bandits on a nearly daily basis (in books), and other places did the same. There is no mention of how nords view it, other than necromancers find it hard to find dead bodies in the snow.

IF there is a mages guild, there needs to be a necromancer guild to oppose it. If there is a fighters guild, there needs to be a blackwater company equivalent i can join. If there is a theives guild, i need to be able to join the guard. If there is dark brotherhood-esq guild, i need to be able to join some group that opposes the dark brotherhood.

Choices!

edit: though if you join necromancers, you shouldnt be able to join the mages ect. Each guild needs to give unique perks. Like if you join the necromancers, you get access to dark magic.

FenceJumper, you bring up the best guild ideas to date. I love the idea of oppossing guilds.

I don't see why not. Almost everyone who was ever a necromancer was once or still is in the mages guild.

well maybe you shouldn't be able to COMPLETE both guilds. The final quests for the necromancer guild will be killing key memebers of the mages guild, and vice versa.

although, i heard somewhere that the mages guild is no more.
