Necromancy magic

Post » Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:45 pm

I used to love using the Staff of Worms in Oblivion to reanimated dead enemy to kill their own comrades. I would love necromancy be one of skills for skyrim (even though I know that probably won't happen). Would like to see this implemented in the game?

if you have ideas about it, please don't be shy, share with the rest of us

I should be a part of Conjuration, after all onehanded weapons have got swords, daggers, maces and axes and what has Conjuration got?

Summon Armor
Summor Creature
Turn Undead (It think this is the two-handed spell in the trailer)

I like the idea of a necromancers' guild (if that's possible lore-wise), so I'm all for it. :)

85 spell effects.
New spell system.
Multipule casting metheods of single spells.
Perks that boost characters abilities based on which skill tree you raise and take them from.
Dozens of threads about necromancy ( everyones a corpse lover, just look at me. )
Summons being complained about for years in the big O forum.
Mods that make spells including summons and skeleton companions...

I'd say either this is in already.. or something similar.
If not this floating heads going to babble a rant of curses.

Is necromancy banned in Skyrim?

It was loathed in Morrowind.
The Mages guild banned it in Oblivion..
Morrowinds gone ( well in a way ).
Mages guild's dead.
Skyrim most likely has it, and is in a civil war.. ain't no rules no more.

- Necromancer's Pit
Have a concept that the bodies rot after a few days and produce a random piece of flesh - an arm, leg, torso, or head. You would then have a 'pit' that has something like a Frankenstien body board where you assemble the bones or flesh into a body where you could bring it to life - turning it into a non-expiring zombie or skelenton follower (like the perminent atronach choice with fire salts in Oblivion). You would have to hunt for the diffrent peices of flesh and could store them in the 'pit' for later use... If a guard sees you with the corpse then you would be labled a necromancer and blacklisted! This would work nicely with the gore evolution of Skyrim.

Considering that we are going to get a lot more companions in Skyrim, I would say yes. If Bethesda was going to add more companions to follow us, why not? It just seems like something too hard to skip over.

I hope the perks for conjuration mark a difference between necromancy and Deadric summoning, the npcs in OB could do one or the other, which makes perfect sense, but the player could do both at will, I think you should need to invest in a lot of perks to do both.

if there is a group of bones on the floor or a skeleton there should be a spell that binds them together and reanimates them.

Don't care. Would be to tedious to go through the trouble of ressurecting a corpse, and then you'd get something worse than you can summon with Conjuration anyway. Prefer something more efficient, like a fireball.

Yeah thats the thing. Most people don't realise lore-wise, it takes a lot of preparation usually (unless you just kill the bandit on the road and revive him after 3 seconds). I like this idea, for BIGGER summons, like trolls or giants maybe, (possibly dragons?) but for human and skeleton summons, it would be too much work, just make them appear.

Some anarchy is always fun :teehee: .

I've got a fear now though...
Load up a first character, take conjuration, learn summon skeleton..
Cast spell in first Nord town... "There are rules here" killed by the godlike guards with radiant AI.

Then make necromancy a little different so that it is not too much trouble  .

The Nords revere and worship their ancestors. I'm sure they gleefully exterminate necromancers at any cost as a sacred duty.

But, a few necro abilities would be cool.

Why make necromancy a skill? Just add the spells to conjuration. That's what reanimate was under in previous games.

Not to mention that magic in Skyrim is an incredibly rare sight supposedly so necromancy would incite fear in people and cause you to be an outcast.

The Nords don't really take to witchcraft (magic) in general. But I don't anticipate too much necromancy in Skyrim:

"In Skyrim, the cold weather and isolated terrain allow a few Necromancers to operate freely. Alas, the availability of corpses is limited to Nords who die from exposure or in battle. While the cold is preservative, the snow makes these corpses difficult to find. More research dedicated to the magical detection of corpses would be invaluable to the Necromancers of Skyrim."

I would go one step further, I think it would be easiest to rename conjuration to something more vague, like Binding.

I would like them to keep necromancy as part of conjuration, but it would be nice if they added perks which increased the efficency of one or the other, incentivizing you to specialize in one.

Yeah there are probably a few necromancers hiding on top of a glacier somewhere that no one knows about. A 'necromancer's guild' isn't likely to happen though. If anything we will be hunting them down.

why is that people want them to bring stuff back from oblivion, wouldn't it be better if you didnt know what was awaiting you in skyrim, maybe there are different types of guilds in skyrim?

Sure.

Like a necromancers' guild you can actually join.

I really hope necromancy will be in. Not the true necromancy, talking to spirits, but the mainstream necromancy, raising things from the dead to be your loyal (permanent?) servants. Please do this, so I don′t have to search the net to fins a decent MMORPG :user: with necromancy in it. It′s costly, and the wife won′t be happy about it. :flame:

By the way, it′s friday. Cheers, everyone! :foodndrink:
