Need Advice for Hyrbid Archer/One Handed

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:59 am

Hi there i need some battle tips for my character. I am about level 20 and i have put most of my perks into archery and one handed and only a couple into block and heavy armor. I also wear heavy armor. I usually sneak attack arrow people when i get a chance and shoot them a bit til i switch in to one handed+ shield. However i am having a really tough time against 2 handed enemies. They seem to be able to 3-5hit me even if i try blocking.

Should i invest more into heavy armor tree or blocking tree also which sides? I heard shield bash is very good but what exactly is it?

Your spreading yourself too thin.

One Handed
Archery
Heavy Armor
Smithing
MAYBE Block

All you need. Just keep leveling health and stamina. What armor do you have?

It's tactics t this point. Knowing your max swing range. Knowing the terrain. Can you jump downto deaggro? Also poisons are essential in any build IMO. Takes no points in alchemy and little effort in money or time t make 4 second paralysis potions. Try out fear and fury poisons too. Choose shouts that can both be aggressive and defensive etc. this is where the game shines IMO. Ya you can play adept and put little thought into it and treat it like a hack and slash but there is an outlet for strategy and tactics.

I had Dwarven around there too. It fit me well. Try and put some perks in smithing.

Block is by far the most versatile and useful skill I've seen

Power Attacking Two Hand Warriors are challenge in this game. Which is a good thing! First, keep in mind that block is slow to level up. And it is not particularly useful in the low levels with no perks invested. Best thing to do is find weaker monsters and practise blocking against them. Learn to time the attacks and raise your block score. I am NOT recommending standing in front of a mudcrab with your shield raised! Just pick a low threat critter and practise real blocking. Exactly like what you would do in combat. Time raising your shield with their attack. Half training your character and half training YOU. Also, a very big perk to quick is Quick Reflexes. The slo-mo when someone is power attacking is a life saver.

Once you get block in 50's with a couple of perks it rocks!

Until you get badass enough to take them out by the time they reach you, you should also use the terrain to your advantage as much as possible. Find a small fence you can hope over or ledge you can jump up, then fire off a shot near it, when they get close, jump the fence. They will turn around and start running around it, fire off another as they get close, then repeat the process till they're dead. For melee battles, get that shield bash perked up with the slow mo perk for when they pwr attack. Whenever they wind up for a swing, bash to interupt, hit them with a couple regular attacks then back out of the way of their counter. Move back into range, rinse, repeat.

I had this same problem when I tried a heavy armor archer, but I didn't after I switched to light armor. In my opinion, a lack of mobility really hurts the survivability of even a half-archery character. So I'd recommend either trying out light armor and being more stealthy and evasive or power-levelling your heavy armor skill until you can get the perk to mitigate its movement and stealth penalties.

You, sir, have literally described my character exactly.

It's a pretty good build, too.

My hybrid rocks archery, one-hand (duel), smithing, and sneak. (light armor)

He picks most enemies off before they even see him, but he's just as comfortable closing in for melee.

Can't take hits like a tank, but he's all about dealing damage first and he's pretty damn good at it.

I use exactly the same template as you, and ran into the exact same problem. It was a rough patch that I eventually overcame by enhancing my armor with smithing, taking an extra heavy armor perk (4/5 of the added resistance perk), and always targeting those guys with my bow first. The only perks that I put into block was 1/5 of the initial perk for the 20% help, and the deflect arrows/magic. The sneak bonus damage for archery, all of the archery perks, and the one handed skill with the mace perks have proven to be a great combo. Once the patch fixes magic resist again, the only enemy that can be pesky are the two-handers. But a lot less so than they used to be.

Get some sneak in there too, it works well with heavy armour, don't have to spend too many points in sneak to get the X3 sneak bow damage bonus.
