Need advice on modifying BB armor meshes

I have been trying to make a mesh of some BB fishnet stockings with a holstered gun attached for a friend. Unfortunately I have run into some problems. For reference: For the fishnet stockings, I am using HD_NL_bbBlkfishnet.NIF from MQB. For the holstered gun, I am using Firefly-ULgun2.NIF (the gun & holster only part of the mesh, thigh body part removed) from Snakebitten's Lair. I have, and have attempted to follow Morrowind Skinned Armor Tutorial v1.0 by Bahamut. Sadly this tutorial is a bit old, looks to be made for a much earlier version of Blender than v2.49b.

My problem is this: In the CS and in game the stocking show but the gun & holster do not show when the stocking are worn by the PC or an NPC. The gun does show when the nif is set to be the world art.

What I have done so far:
*chopped out everything from the Firefly-ULgun2.NIF that was not related to the gun and the holster with NifSkope.
*added the gun & holster to the fishnet stockings nif in with NifSkope and got it placed where I wanted it, then applied the transforms so it had no unresolved transforms relating to the gun & holster.
*imported the new fishnet stocking nif to Blender.
*Tried to do the parenting thing, but my popup is different from the one shown in the tutorial. Regardless, I had already setup the trishapes in the nif to be under the same branch as the fishnet stocking trishape.
*looked at the fishnet trishape in Blender and noted it had an armature modifier on it set to Scene Root with the vert groups button only selected, gave each trishape of the gun & holster that same modifer
*Tried the bone weight copy scripts, copying weights from the fishnet stocking itself.
*Tried adding in the vertex groups manually, and manually doing the weight painting.
*later noted in the tutorial this statement "TriShapes must have names of valid MW body parts or they will not show up," and so renamed all the trishapes to be Tri Left Knee 0, Tri Left Knee 1, etc.

Have now run out of ideas. If someone would please take a look at this nif in Blender and tell me what I am missing I would appreciate it. This one has had the bone weight copy scripts run on it, and not the manual painting. Additionally the trishapes are not renamed on this one.
