Take the light armour way to 100 you get the Light armour variant, take the heavy armour way, you get the heavy version, take both, you get both.

I went up the right side only. That way I had dragon scale AND daedric weapons for the least amount of perks spent. I just used quest and random gear until my smithing was 100.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

If you're going straight to 100 smith you should
Go heavy armor side for daedric weapons
and dragon for light armor

No point in having glass/elven etc with dragon light armor/daedric weapons

If you go light armor side only you won't be able to make the best weapons. If you max the heavy stuff you can still make the best light armor as well as all the best weapons.

That said, I will be doing the light armor path partway because I don't really like the look of the dragonscale armor much.

Am I missing something? You need to take 4 light armor perks to reach dragon, and 5 heavy armor perks to reach dragon armor. My question is, can you not take 4 light armor perks + Dragon armor + Daedric armor smithing?
Or you can not go backwards in perk tree?

Nope, you can't. Ebony smithing is required to get Daedric smithing.

Can't go backwards unfortunately.

To OP, Don't even waste perks on the light armor side (elven, scaled, glass)
Just go daedric for weapons then dragon for light armor

are you a physical weapon user ? if so yeah your kinda screwed, UNLESS you spend additional point into the right tree

If you are a Bound Weapon user its not that big of a deal since you wont be using physical weapons anyways ( like me)

If you're on PC, you can use console commands to do this. When you level up, put the perk in another spot, then use removeperk to take out that item and addperk to get daedric smithing. Check out these links for more info on the specifs:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console#Player_or_Targeted_Commands
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Smithing#Perks

This lets you spend the perk point in a much more fun and I think better-flowing way.

No you dont.

For light armor you need the perks on the left side, thats light armor. The right side is for heavy, mainly.

You want to aim for the Dragon Scale armor.

Although Daedric is slightly better then dragon scale for heavy armor users, it takes a looooong time before you can make them compared to dragon scale, which you can make as soon as you ding 100, as by that time you have killed atleast 2 dragons, which is all you need to have enough bones and scales for a full set.

As for light armor user.....just work out the left side, unlock it all.
You need what, like 4 perks in total i think.

You should NOT take the right side, like Dwemer, Orcish, Ebony and Daedric. Those are for heavy armor users only.
Unless...you want to make the weapons.....................

Remember that smithing is also for weapons.
And a weapon you are not skilled in, with the perk, you can never get to legendary even with 100.
But, once you have got the dragon scale, you can start going backwards in the heavy armor line, cause you want to get Daedric and possibly ebony, but skip the rest.
Since you want to make youserlf a Daedric or Ebony bow or other weapons later.

Okay... we get it. You've posted 3-4 times in this thread telling us that you're a bound weapons user. Again, we get it.

Some (read as most) of us just like to use stronger, real weapons.

If all your using is light armor, all you need are the light armor perks... Like, I only use heavy armor, so all I have are the perks on the right side of the branch. No need for light armor ones. Unless you use heavy weapons, in which case yeah you would need the perk to improve it to the max.
