Do I need to grind?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:10 pm

Loving the game so far but I've run into a little nuisance. In order to continue forward, I have to clear out the nightkin from that rocket factory. I am however too low level (I can kill maybe one or two before I die) and I have already completed all the sidequests I had. Is there any tips to taking on the nightkin or am I just going to have to grind for levels? :|

You in fact do not need to do that quest at all if you want to...

Spoiler
If you go into Manny's room and access his computer and read the message you will be able to move forward without doing that particular quest

If you have decent speech you can actually talk your way through it. If you don't, you should probably just go do some other quests.

IMPOSSIBLE! There's about 70 sidequests. Go find them.

If you already have then, well, wow you're dedicated.

have you talked to the ghoul tht is stuck down there?if so the door before you get to him has a a nightkin NPC and you talk to him and he ask you to get stealth boys which he tells you they are in the room where the ghoul is but you have to kill him to get them.then there is a terminal and it tells you they were sent back.now go back and tell the nightkin NPC tht they got sent back and he will go searchin for them

Ran out? I didn't do that quest until I was around level 14. I was mostly doing side quests. By then, I had a lot more firepower.

Really? I'm only level 4 :|

From memory, I've done the training mission, helped goodsprings defend against powdergangers, got rid of the powdergangers in primm, got back up for hayes to sherrif the town, killed the critters for that NCR outpost aswell as spread the word of the legionaires' attack on that town. Saved the dudes the legionaires was taking for slaves, done boone's wife quest and the nightkin that was killing the brahmin. Have I missed any sidequests on my way to novac?

You did all that and you are only level 4? I think I have managed to hit level 6-8 going through all those by the time I am ready to leave Novac (not counting REPCONN), have you been hitting all the little side locations along the route from Goodsprings to Novac for the discovery exp and to kill all the beasties? Tried clearing out the NCRCF prison (you can't do their sidequest if you are vilified by them, though, only wipe them out for tons of sellable goodies and a schematic)?

Couldn't do the prison the first time since I didn't have any AP rounds back then. I might go back now that I have a few but as far as I am aware I have visited the side bits and stuff :o

I'm so confused by you right now, lol... how did you do all that and you're only level 4??

If the Powder Gangers holed up in NCRCF aren't hostile to you, there is a brief quest line you can do there called I Fought The Law which is fairly simple to complete. The Mojave Outpost has a couple quests there such as Keep Your Eyes on the Prize which you get from the sniper (Ghost) on the roof and Can You Find it in Your Heart? which is the clearing the road quest you said you did. Once you hit Novac you'll find quests all over that area, especially at Camp Forlorn Hope... assuming you're friendly with NCR.

Still completely puzzled how you're only level 4 still...

P.S. You don't need AP rounds to do the prison... I only recently even found out the place had a quest because I used to just shoot the doorman in the face and take the whole place out with dynamite and a 9mm submachine gun. :gun:
Decided to be a little friendlier this time around... sort of... I betrayed them at the end of the quest line anyway, lol.

If you're at Novac, there's no reason not to go further north to places like Helios One, Camp McCarren, Crimson Caravan, Freeside - which will net you half a dozen quests or more.

(I recently picked up a Hunting Shotgun and Hunting Rifle... I'm a very happy player now. ED-E and Veronica are also useful.)

I did the whole grind thing for about 3-4 levels right at the beginning, killing geckos, coyotes and other assorted wildlife. Then I just started to go and do other things for a while and by the time I got to novac I was about Level 10 and already had E-DE and Boone with me so they never stood a chance. There are a TON of side quests and faction quests that aren't related to the main stories, so don't worry too much about grinding. I'm on my second playthrough(didn't finish first because I wanted to change some stuff) and I'm level 20 and I haven't even talked to Mr. House yet.

If all else fails, crank difficulty down to Very Easy for a little while.

Yea, I decided to go on to helios one after killing the powder gangers in the prison. Got a couple levels with that. Might explore east and north of novac, those golden geckos were fairly easy to kil :)

You don't *have* to kill the Nightkin. You don't have to kill anyone for that quest. The Nightkin will leave if you can show them that the stealthboys they're looking for aren't there.
