I'd go Dunmer since you are using Blade. Dunmer gets skill bonuses for Blade and Destruction. It'll take you a little longer to get your magicka up though.

If you want a boost to blade and destruction, go for the Dunmer. I would choose the Breton because of the magicka boost though, you can always increase your skills, but magicka is not as easy to increase.

Pick whichever you think looks best. At end-game you'll be able to make up any shortcomings with enchantments and suchlike.

I agree with Count Lauriel. I would recommend picking your race based on ONLY the looks and image you think is most appropriate for your character. :)

Thats is not really a warlock class, that is more battle mage, in my eyes warlock are robe wearers, and mostly summoning and fire destruction. but as a battle mage definently dumner :)

Jack_B97, a Warlock could be anything, if you think about it, there's a mages guild rank called Warlock, iirc.

I think Sorlin's class is good for what he wants to do.

If you're interested in making the most powerful possible character Breton is better in the long run because of the Magicka bonus (and an Altmer would be even more powerful). But there is nothing wrong with going Dunmer if you prefer the looks.

I agree with the previous post suggesting Dunmer.

Do you plan to contract vampirism at some point? If so, you may want to adjust your skills slightly.

Wood elf?

Traditionally a Warlock is a dual-class, leaning more towards a druid or forest-dweller whith some magic. Warlocks ideally should wear light-armor, have some proficiency in the alchemical arts and have something like animal empathy (be good at casting charm spells) so I'd go for that instead of heavy armor and maybe go for some kind of short-blade or staff? I wouldn't choose the atronach as that is a spell-intensive sign. Also, I dont see mark and recall spells here in Oblivion along with Almsivi intervention so it makes it hard to play with that sign.

Of course you can make a warlock who destroys everything with fire and ignore everything I've said.

I agree here. You can cast some truly powerful spells with Altmer, but if you are looking at it from a cosmetic standpoint go with what ever you want.

I was thinking of going Dunmer since I prefer that race aesthetically. How should I adjust my skills?

If you wanted to go purely by game mechanics, there's actually a Warlock NPC class, and it has the following attributes and skills:

Governing school: Magic
Primary attributes: Luck, Willpower
Major Skills: Athletics, Blade, Destruction, Illusion, Restoration, Acrobatics, Light Armor

So it's set up very much like what I'd consider a Nightblade or stealth Battlemage.

But that's just one interpretation of what a Warlock is. In Morrowind they used blunt weapons I believe. A lot of these NPC classes are open to personal modification.

Choose whatever race suits you best. Both have strengths and weaknesses. I lean towards Dunmer myself.

I never understood why people bother with races so much - what does it matter? At the end your character will be strong even if you have chosen the most [censored]tiest race to begin with. Just play it the way you enjoy.

what does it matter?

Here's what I think. I think a lot of people have gotten into the habit of thinking this way because they've come from other games and old habits of thought are hard to break. Games like Dungeons and Dragons and online games like World of Warcraft have trained players to think race is important.

A related term is "build." You'll hear a lot of people talk about "builds." But as far as I'm concerned it's as meaningless as race when speaking of an Elder Scrolls game.

I agree entirely: just play it the way you enjoy.

I would add another vote for deciding based on what you want the character to look like if your not going to wear a helmet all the time.
Starting out a breton is exceptionally slow, especially with heavy armor. dunmer are fairly quick and agile starting out. Other than that I'd decide if I want to be human or an elf. I tend to think of elfs as rather puny most the time.

I agree with this and posts above. Recommend just go with the Race you like the look of, and maybe the lore. In the end the race doesn't matter much, except for the magic resistances and enhancements of Breton and Altmers. But even that's not a big deal.

For skills, you have all intelligence skills as majors. Oddly that will make it difficult to get good intelligence bonuses. I recommend dropping Alchemy to a minor. Maybe replace with Restoration, which is slow to level and very useful.

Also I recommend dropping Heavy Armor to a minor. That can increase levels quickly even as a minor. Maybe replace with Armorer so you can repair enchanted weapons and armor sooner.

Why not use the console and make him/her half Breton-half Dunmer :hubbahubba:

Adding the special racial attributes like Dragonskin: I'm not so clear on how to do that. But it is not hard to modify the faces to look like hybrids. Then you can just go into the console and adjust stats as you see fit using the

setav

Wish I knew how to do screen caps. I'd post a picture of my Redguard-Altmer hybrid female mage. I think she is very convincing looking as a hybrid. All I did was up her Str by 10 and her Endurance by 20. No Adrenaline rush, and I didn't adjust any of the other Altmer ethnic modifiers or weaknesses.

I would normally go with the Breton since it has more magic and a nice 50% resistance to it, but since I'm bored with them I would go for the Dunmer, and maybe Altmer if that is a choice for you.
