I need help in Fallout 2...

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 6:37 am

...it's filled with geckos, I have pistol and spear. Sulik seems to die, and I would like to know if anyone out there has advice?

I'm really stuck on this part...I just wish I had a gun and... :flamethrower:

Any help?

If you have enough action points you can hit a gecko then run away, they will use up thier action points to get to you and not be able to attack. Since you have Sulik he might be able to get in a few hits of his own, just run back and forth to either side of him so that HE doesn't use up all his action points getting to the gecko. I usually go to the Toxic Cave alone, for one they are toxic and rubber boots are limited, and also possible to get Sulik as a quest reward after visiting the Toxic Caves. Try to take the geckos one at a time if you can, get to just within range and shoot at one then run back towards the cave enterance and let just that one follow you. Sneaking will help getting only one to follow you, or if your sneak skill is high enough you can sneak through the whole cave as combat only initiates when the geckos see you, not anyone in your party. There is also a "secret" passage way on the 2nd level that can help bypass a number of geckos on that level.

Hope this helps

You can bypass most of them with patiences. When they walk off, make a run for it. Make sure to get the rubber boots so you can flee across the goo without any problems at all. I managed to do it first time and I only had to kill one Golden Gecko.

Just leave this place and return when you have gained some levels and an electronic lockpick (preferably Mk II).

That's not a very good suggestion, since a player normally obtains the Electronic Lockpick Mk II in San Francisco, which is near the end of the game. The Gecko Skinning perk will have worn out its usefulness long before then, so it's important to at least rescue Smiley as soon as possible, then return to crack the bunker at a later date. Gecko skins can be good income boost all the way up to the middle of the game and Fire Geckos.

OP, people have already given you most of the advice you need: Take the secluded path on the right of the map, waiting until the geckos are as far away as possible before moving forwards. If you're lucky, you'll only need to kill one or two of them as you rescue Smiley and bring him back to the entrance.

If you don't have enough firepower, go to the Den first and buy or steal an SMG or Hunting Rifle. You should be able to afford one, and if not, you can always murder one or both shopkeepers there, since no one cares.

If Sulik is dying, change his combat movement mode to "stay where you are" and/or give him some rubber boots. Failing that, make him wait next to the entrance so that there's no way for him to run into danger.

And if all else fails, you can try decreasing the difficulty. Doing Toxic Caves early on is actually one of the more challenging parts of the game, because of your low level and lack of expensive equipment and supplies. It's especially difficult if you don't have a "perfect" character build.

One thing nobody mentioned was to leave the cave after killing a Gecko, heal up, and then re-enrtering to kill another one. You don't have to do it all in one trip.

I usually skip the toxic cave until after getting metal armor at least, if not doing a navarro run and coming back with APA.
