Need help for my first fanfic!

So I'm about to start my first fanfiction for Fallout. It takes place during the battle for Helios One between the NCR and the BoS, with my story being set on a BoS soldier's perspective. Although there will be plenty of action, I want to make it primarily focused on the main character and not just the battle of Helios One.

We don't know much about the details of the battle, nor do we know much about the Mojave at the time, which are things that I want to tackle in the events of my fanfic. I plan to include some characters from New Vegas such as Macnamara, Veronica and Father Elijah (which should be interesting). I hope to also include a chapter about Black Mountain, which was, back then, inhabited by Marcus and the more friendly mutants that apperently traded with the Brotherhood.

I haven't written anything in a while and I have never made a Fallout fanfic before, so I'm turning to the experts of these forums, you. I want to keep it accurate with Fallout's lore and (hopefully) portray characters that we meet in New Vegas as they should be.

I'm still looking through other people's fanfics for ideas and seeing the sort of standard that these really well written stories have set.

Help, advice and tips would be really appreciated and I'll post questions here should i have any. Infact i have some now so I'll post them just now. Feel free to answer them.

How does the ammo crates for miniguns/gatling guns stay on the backs of Power Armor? I want to keep technical details accurate and not simply say "The crate for the minigun magically stuck to his back".

Like the above question, how would a laser pistol 'holster' on a set of power armor? Or could I create a built in holster on the armor for the purpose of the fanfic?

What is a good number of characters to deal with regularly during the story? The main character is part of a squad (4 or 5 people overall) but I also want to handle other characters such as Macnamara etc. Should i stick to a small number of characters to avoid becoming sidetracked or is this generally not a problem?

How would you feel if I went against the game a little? For example if I want to include a Deathclaw encounter in the story but I don't know where they are at this point. Would you be bothered if I created a nest in Quarry Junction even though there was only one there after the NCR moved in, or would you not mind aslong as I made a reasonable explaination for why it's there?

That's it for now, thanks in advance for any help, I'm looking forward to starting this.

:thanks:
