Obviously I need a better PC to play on Skyrim so I am planning on getting a new video processor and I was wondering what was good, I was thinking about a Raedon 5870 HD but that is 499.99$ if you got anything good that is cheaper please post. Oh and I am not the wealthiest person ever so try to make a limit on how much it costs

A 5870 is nowhere NEAR $500, where the hell are you shopping? Besides, that will most likely be overkill for Skyrim. Try NewEgg Canada for a decent price if that is what you want.

First wait until system requirements are released. Better hardware for your money will be available by then.
Also tell us what you have already. The parts you'll buy may not be compatible with your current configuration...
Finally tell us what resolution you're playing in.

bad link. Turbo boost automatically raises frequency when needed. Intel Mobile HD graphics is pure crap.

I have a HD 5770 and it run Oblivion and Fallout NV pretty fine with graphics sets at the maximum, and 4x AA.

I wouldn't go out and buy anything for Skyrim just yet. Plenty of time to wait to find out what you'll be needing before you decide what you'll want. Plus, prices will be cheaper in half a year! :celebration:

My GTS 450 runs Fallout 3 with high resolution texture packs on max without even stressing itself, at it was less than £100. F3 is probably a better performance comparison than Oblivion, as Oblivion was hilariously ill-optimised (Though my GTS 450 handles vanilla oblivion without a complaint, too).

However, do you need a PC, or are you buying one for skyrim? If the latter, wait until the game is almost released, components get cheaper with time so you'll get better deals. Otherwise, the cost savings aren't worth not having a decent PC. http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af150/The_FalconO6/CurrentLogicalPCBuyingGuide/Guide.png is a good starting point, but basically you want to figure out your budget first, and then research prices. You don't need a high end card unless you want to run the game in 3D at 1920x1200, and you don't need a high end processor unless you want to encode video at the same time as playing. Both are nice to have, but high end components are very expensive and mid end components will more than get the job done for a fraction of the price.

I would *highly* reccomend buying the components individually and assembling it yourself, it's very easy and you pretty much can't go wrong, you'll also save an awful lot of money over "gaming" prebuilds like alienware.

I would wait until they released computer specs before I bought anything. No reason to buy something now to find out your rig is still underpowered, and besides by then what you would buy now will be way cheaper.

Why not wait till late fall? The nVidia Kepler generation might be out by then and that'll be a whole lot of improvement.

Oh, my, be careful where you shop. For 500 bucks I could get a brand new Geforce GTX 580.
