Need help from the lore experts

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 1:51 am

I have a mod that gives the actors and players in Oblivion a new kind of magic called Combat Magic.

I want to make a quest for this, I spent 2 hours looking on line and stepping thru the CS dialog trying to track done more information about the two scholars you hear talk about "a discovery has led to a different way of looking at a certain magic" and an then the excited reply of "if it's right".

Can anyone give me the names of scholars or any more info about this? Combat Magic will be this "different way of looking at a certain magic" but I need to gather as much lore data on this as I can before I just "make up" the rest.

One name comes to mind: Delphine Jend. Your Combat Magic, from what I've read, is a highly innovative method of merging of the magical schools of Alteration and Destruction with a little twist of Mysticism. Delphine Jend is well known for being a visionary in the destructive arts, and so it would probably fit pretty well for this new style of magic to have been invented by her. As for how she got the funding for this project from the Arcane University, well, Enemies Explode was a wild success.

Delphine Jend along with a master like Tooth-in-the-Sea perhaps?

Minor question to the Mods: Shouldn't this thread be in the Oblivion Modding section?

Question for the OP: Would Delphine develop this entirely on her own, or would she rope in others more skilled in the other schools of magic she was thinking of using in her project?

I think Delphine Jend is one of them and perhaps http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Ancotar (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Zero_Visibility) is the other one you're looking for. :)

Yes, Delphine Jend and Tooth-in-the-Sea are quite excellent candidates. Not only are they masters at their fields (and their fields so happen to be exactly what Combat Magic fuses together), they are both residents of Bravil, allowing for easy consultation, research, and practice.

It's almost too good to be true. :hubbahubba: :hubbahubba:

I don't know if it would matter much, but Tooth-In-the-Sea isn't Mages Guild.

Delphine Jend is a good choice. People already think she is dangerous, and she admits to being ambitious and wanting to make a name for herself. Perhaps with Ungarion the Warlock Luck's owner, who though a retired adventurer still dabbles in magic (he drops by the mages guild I think). He may have come across something in his travels that might spark development by Delphine.

Ancotar too, for a roguish reclusive mage.

You might want to consider working in Borissean and Gaspar Stegine in the Arcane University Praxographical Center. They appear to be the best spell makers in Cyrodiil, given the power and scope of the spells they sell.

The actually professors in the University don't really have unique names.

If the scholars in question do not appear directly in your mod (but are simply referenced), then I suggest broadening your horizons. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Divayth_Fyr is a 4,000 year old wizard, and would make for good creator of new and strange magic. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:King_of_Worms is another good call. So is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Vanus_Galerion, although granted he's been dead for a while. But your mod could still revolve around finding some old notes of his about this new magic. Perhaps it is something he abandoned because he thought it would be too dangerous if loosed upon the world?

At some point in my fan fiction, I intend to introduce a new magic - permanent summons. This magic will be known by the old reclusive current resident of Frostcrag Spire. It will go much beyond the Wizard's Tower ability to create permanently summoned atronachs. It will include the ability to summon and unsummon existing items/creatures like your horse or favorite enchanted weapon. The mage of the future will create the awesome staff of doom, but then instead of lugging it around on his back, will simply summon it when required and just as easily unsummon it when not needed. Not to mention more mundane benefits like summoning permanently bound arrows when you run low. Or unsummoning your horse to safety instead of leaving it as ogre fodder outside of a dungeon.

Not sure if any of these ideas have merit or bearing toward your project, but thought I would mention them just in case they might help. :)
