I don't know about the controller or the TV, but the http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901 will make downloading mods a lot easier. I have a bunch of mods on my game, but I don't know as much about it as some of the other people here. The Fallout Mods Manager is a must for a beginner though.

You can't use a PS3 controller, because no proper drivers exist for it, but you can use an XBox 360 controller. All you have to do is plug it into a USB slot and the computer should install the proper driver automatically if you're connected to the internet, then when you load up New Vegas you just go into the control options and switch it from keyboard/mouse to Gamepad.

I'm quite sure it's possible to get your laptop screen to show up on your TV as well, but I believe you need a certain type of TV (HD, I think?) and a certain type of connector.

That's not factually accurate; you can use a PS3 controller with a computer but it takes effort on the part of the user and isn't as simple as using a typical computer gamepad and definitely not as simple as using an Xbox controller. If you have to ask how, you're probably better off just buying an Xbox controller and having everything work automatically.

^ This link is just one example of PS3 controller use on a PC. There are (clunkier) alternatives as well.

For the TV, your laptop needs a video out port (it likely has one) and then you need a cable that matches the video out port on the laptop, one of a few options for video input on your TV, and then you need to make sure that the TV is the primary display if it doesn't supercede the laptop's screen.

If its a wireless controller then you'll have to buy a special adaptor that will allow you to connect wireless Xbox 360 devices to your computer. If its wired then just plug the USB into your computer.

You also might want to just attach a mouse and use it with the keyboard. It'll take a bit of adjustment, but a mouse is a lot more accurate then an anolog stick.

Thanks everyone, now could someon help me actually put install the mods, i click on them, drag them to my fallout new vegas data foulder, but only one has actually worked in game, does it depend on their file type or something cus the ones that don't work say 7z and the one that does is like esp or something like that
Also i downloaded the mod manager but evertime i click download with manager for a mod it says "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (nxm) isn't associated with any program."

Edit: now im using the nexus mod manager and it wants me to run it with an application anyone know what im supposed to use?

Unless he has some weirdly desperate need to use a PS3 controller specifically, that isn't even worth mentioning. The difficulty in managing it and the poor functionality even after make it pointless. You have to get a 3rd party driver, an emulator program, carefully assign each and every key function through the emulator, and still have a rough time managing menus and binding all necessary functions, and many things would function in a clumsy manner.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a 3rd party driver for such trivial hardware as a controller, but yeah, the emulation step kinda svcks. While keyboard emulation with a controller is uselessly clumsy, you can always go the XInput wrapper route so that your non-Xbox controller will be treated as if it were an Xbox controller (this avoids the controller functioning clumsily or rather, it would be no more clumsy than just using an Xbox controller for menu navigation, but setup isn't a stroll through the park).

While I think using a controller for a FPS is pure idiocy regardless of the controller (when a mouse is an option), dismissing what options there are for controllers if you're deadset on using one is wasting the myriad of options and potential using a computer brings.
