Need help on modding

Post » Sun Aug 07, 2011 1:38 pm

Hi. I'm new to modding but I've been able to install a few basic mods on my own by placing the .esp files in the Data folder. My question is what do I do when the .esp file comes with a textures folder, a meshes folder, and sometimes a sound folder. Where do I put those? I tried to load a gun mod for example that needed the meshes and textures to be loaded, but they weren't. I just have them sitting in their folders in the /fnv/data area. Everything is unzipped, so what do I do with them? Do i need to drag all of the contents somewhere to a corresponding folder? Any help would be awesome! NOTE: I have FOMM

EDIT: As an example. I downloaded a mod that gave you the Galil with holographic sight and a silencer. When I went to the location i was able to open the container and all the contents were in there. As I equipped the weapon and attatched the mods (checked before and after) it was just a huge red exclamation point.....I'm so confused.

Put those folders in the same place you put the esp. Overwrite where necessary cus it will warn you when poping in a meshes or textures folder when you already have one. (The overwriting will actually just merge the folders, which is good).

The other folders are from unpacking your BSA files, which isnt necessary unless you do custom mesh work.

I feel like that's what I've been doing. But I guess not. I'm gonna restart and download a new mod. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39754

After I download that, I'll tell you exactly what I did, if I do it wrong, and then maybe we can get to the bottom of this.

It should be in a rar or 7z file. When you open it, you should see the meshes folder, textures folder, and an esp (Maybe some other things as well). If you dont, find them within the archive.

Open another window and navigate to your data folder. Draff all the files from the archive into the data folder. Overwrite whatever is necessary.
