need help picking a perk!

Post » Sat Apr 26, 2014 7:42 am

i dont know why im asking, i am a fallout veteran. and have played this game countless times (and yes i have made a 'perfect' character save)

now i know what are good perks and what are bad perks, but god perks at level 3 are awful!

ofcourse i picked lady killer at level 2, so that leaves me with...

.Daddy's boy (+5 science and medicine)

.Gun nut (+5 sm. guns and repair)

.Intense training (+1 special attribute)

.Little leaguer (+5 energy weapons and explosives)

.Swift learner (+10% xp gain)

.Thief (+5 lockipick and sneak)

Now, and i hate myself for this, but i was thinking swift learner, because lets face it, with our without a raise in any skills, i WILL max them all out, so they are completely pointless, and with or without intense training, i WILL max out my SPECIAL thanks to almost perfect+bobbleheads. So the only thing i can think of which would be of any use is swift learner even though looking back at level 30 this perk will make me vomit.

My special stats are: S=6, P=6, E=6, C=1, I=10, A=6, L=6 so i meet all the requirements for the super perks which i made sure of, so raising special really will not benefit me even slightly.

So, do you agree or do you think i should go for another one? let me know please....

I have always thought swift learner equals me not getting the most out of the game , hence I almost never take it.

But you bring up an interesting point I never thought of. It also limits your advancement at the top end.

If the option is available to you ... I suggest building your own perks.

unfortunately i own a console version of the game so I can't use mods or alter the game in anyway other than legit glitches and exploitations, i know its depressing, thanks anyway :) could you please explain what you mean when you say "it also limits your advancement at the top end?"

Also another thing is go with a gimped intelligence rating. Those skill perks become more useful if your intelligence is only 1.

Can you just skip taking a perk?

Haha yeah, thats a good one, id rather not be dependant on these sorts of perks and only use them in situations such as this one.

Maybe if i get bored and want a nerfed character to challenge myself, but to be truthful that would last a couple hours vefore i decided its not worth investing time into, thanks anyway.

Did I misunderstand this statement?

"Now, and i hate myself for this, but i was thinking swift learner, because lets face it, with our without a raise in any skills, i WILL max them all out, so they are completely pointless."

Ahhh maybe I did ... I blame it on the cold medicine.

But still ... it stands to reason compression of level advancement would limit you end game. Ill see if i can wrap my brain around why that would be with this games logistics.

No, haha to be honest i really wish you could, none of these perk's value negates the shame i will endure when i decide which one to pick.

I was trying to explain why imo i thought the swift learner would come in handier than any perks which level skills. Not neccessarily in terms of gameplay, but in the convenience of quicker level advancement.

But you level up so fast as it is.

The thing is in the early stages you might want to have a higher skill in something. Science, Lock pick is quite nice to get to 50 or 75 asap. As well has getting your main attack skill to at least 50 is quite nice as well. Yes it is wasted at level 30 but at level 3 having a level 50 skill in lock pick is better than level 45.

Yeah, but any terminals and locked doors i come across now i will return to later, i do understand where you are coming from though, it may also help me reach perk requirements which you just indirectly made me realise, so thanks for that!

Yes you can go back but quite a few players do not and hate bypassing a locked safe.

I forgot to mention that some perks do need a certain skill level at the time a perk is available.

You mean theres a glitch of some sort? like perks which should require skills becoming available even if you do not meet the required ones?

You stated in the previous post about reaching the requirement of a perk so when reach the character level the perk is available you have the required skill. This is more for the lower level perks
