I didn't have any problems with this quest, however, I killed the 3 fiends 1st then talked with the Rangers....

It might be that you had to speak with everyone and Betsy back at McCarran about the medical treatment before they leave for Forlorn Hope. I did and when I spoke with Betsy again at Forlorn Hope, she says whether or not the treatment helped.
