Last night, while playing, I had a very brief electrical spike and it completely shut my computer down, and I had to restart . Once up and running again I started up the game. Everything went well until I got to the game screen that asks the following: Continue, New, Last Saved, Options, etc. When I click on Continue or Last saved, a window pops up with the following:

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

De Bug - Does nothing, it closes the window.

The game will not start up. I have tried a Restore Point to the day before and have the same problem. And I went back four days, all with the same result.

Computer is XP, with Home Addition

Is there any way to get the game to play again or do I have to start all over again?

sounds like the improper shutdown may have corrupted some files. i would un-install (backup any saves first), do a full re-boot, defrag your hard disk and then re-install.

Try renaming the file in the same folder as your saved games named "Oblivion" to Backup, then restart the game. This will cause Oblivion to regenerate a new configuration settings file (ini) , you will need to reset your screen resolution and some game settings.
This is reversed by renaming your "Backup" to "Oblivion" if this does not work. I hope nothing major has happened to your PC! :shocking:

Can you tell me where the "Save Files" are located?

I use Vista, My saved games are in C:\Users\bradley\documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves.

I've found the file for the save and copied it and saved it using a different name. Thank you.

Now however, when I try to uninstall Oblivion using the Oblivion Uninstall, a pop up says, “ The Oblivion Launcher could not find the uninstall program. Run the setup.exe on the Oblivion install disc to uninstall.”

I can’t find Oblivion “setup.exe”. Even did a search with no results.

I’ve tried that with both disk 1 and 2 and the same message pops up.

I’ve tried using the control Panel uninstall and nothing happens and the same thing, nothing, happens when I try using CCleaner.

I’m open to suggestions on how to uninstall Oblivion.

Are you looking at the programs on the actual disc? Highlight your disc drive with the GOTY disc one and left click to bring up a list of options, you want to click on open.
You should be looking at all of the individual files on the disc, you want to double click on the set.exe by Macrovision Corporation, just double click on it to let it start working.
This is the installer/uninstaller program for Oblivion, it should remove Oblivion from your PC and allow you to reinstall.
