Need help with performancefps

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 7:24 am

Hello Fallout 4 community,

I need some help on performance tweaks.
System:
Amd FX6350 @3.90 ghz
MSI Radeon 270x Gaming 4g @1080 mhz
8gb 1333 mhz RAM
I know this isn't a beast, but I can run Battlefield 4 at ultra settings with stable 50-60 fps.

So my problem is, in diamond city area (and urban area in general) the fps drops from a stable 60 to 15-20.
I tried tweaking it by setting the view distances to the lowest, which got the fps in diamond city area to about 25. Still disappointing.
This game isnt as hard as Battlefield 4, a game with heavy visuals that runs at ~55 fps on my machine.

So do you guys have any tips on how to do the video settings in order to stop those fps drops in urban areas?
Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Shadows, shadow distance, and God rays. The first 2 make a difference in urban and populated areas so go medium to low, godrays just eats FPS so stick that no higher than medium.

And I play BF4 regularly, this game is currently more demanding.

Reason its demanding is because of quite bad optimization, it being released for just a few weeks and lack of optimization mods. but even though you can get some mods that will greatly improve performance and graphics.

Have my thanks guys.

Are those mods safe? Heard rumors to stay away from mods until the official modkit is released.

they are and if not you can always remove them, since most are installed with Nexus mod manager. just check the description and everything to be sure and you need to make some tweaks yourself for the fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini

just check the videos for guides.

Also if you played skyrim you will know that it's kinda the same. and since the G.E.C.K kit isn't out yet most mods are made with falloutsnip and TESKIT

One of the biggest strains on your system will most of the time be Ambient occulation, and shadows/shader.

Turn that off, or down, and you will notice a big difference.

Also a few things u might consider, can be tweaked using this link.

I built a new beast of a PC myself, and I can normally run FO4 Ultra maxed out @ 1440p with 100+ fps. Now given that, when I also enter urban city areas, sometimes my fps has dropped down to 40-60fps. That's a significant difference and I nailed it down to Shadow Distance. I turned that setting to Medium and my fps went back to 100+ fps in areas it dropped to 40-60. High or Ultra give the same fps drop. You'll notice with that setting turned down, you won't see detailed shadow drawings on far away buildings anymore, but there you have it.

There is also the new AMD driver in case you haven't updated. FO4 optimizations that will help probably.
