Need help with planning a legion playthrough

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:17 am

Hey guys so i need some help doing a legion playthrough. First of all there aren't exactly a lot of quests for the legion, so would it be smart to just go around wiping out NCR camps and such. Also i was thinking of focusing mainly on unarmed, melee, and survival, but what i'm really wondering is weather or nor to use stimpacks since the legion doesn't use chems, should i use healing powder or bitter drink instead? Also im wondering about the DLC's, mainly OWB and HH since LR and DM are fairly straight forward. Since Caesar wouldn't want a bunch of tech, would i want to kill the all the think tank members in OWB, and would i want to kill the new caaninites for HH? Finally does anyone know of some cool legion like armor to wear around or should i just stick with legion faction armor. Thanks!

Wow...really, no stimpacks? Good for you! I could never play without stimpacks. Healing powder would be preferable since it's directly mentioned in game that it's the source of their healing, but I don't see a problem with using bitter drink if you have to. Kill everybody in OWB! I would still get the stealth suit, since CL utilizes Stealth Boys in their dealings in the wasteland and that's tech. Kill the new caaninites, it's what Caesar would want...even though you never hear him talk about it. For my CL playthroughs (so pretty much all of my games) I wear Legion slave rags and scarf, but I play as a female.

If you're going to tag skills, make sure you tag medicine, it's very important to the main story line, oh and make sure you get Arcade before you gain any real legion influence. Good luck!

This sounds like an awesome idea!

I might go with marked man scout armor- it's light and has a "leigonish" feel to it.
The abscence of leigon quests has really bothered me, I mostly just go around wiping out ranger stations, in stealth preferably.
I would definently go melee/unarmed, Embrace the Mantis King and Knock Knock are both great options.
Good luck on no stims, I would never be able to do that.

Hope the play through goes well for you!

Don't do the portion of the Legion main quest where you have to kill the Brotherhood. After that is where you're branded an NCR terrorist. Just pretend you're a Frumentarri agent and go around sabotaging NCR projects like the Monorail. Kill Chief Hanlon or something. Just make sure you do it sneaky like so you can still do NCR quests that don't actually help the NCR.

Use Stimpaks if you want to and use guns as well. The former is just because you're not really a Legionary, you're a special agent for the Legion. The latter because you're fighting against NCR Elite Rangers, you're going to die if you charge in there.

Honest Hearts - If you have the guns, kill the Burned Man and Daniel. If not, help Daniel and spare Salt-upon-Wounds. It makes the Dead Horses and Sorrows weaker. Not to mention it limits the Burned Man's power.

Old World Blues - You can keep the Think Tank but really, it isn't a serious decision in the scope of things. The Courier takes control of Big Mountain anyways. Just roleplay that you're changing the focus of Big Mountain into a massive war machine. Easily justifiable as the old Roman Empire was technologically advanced compared to its enemies.

As for armor, I like the Praetorian armor but you should just wear the Courier's Duster in Lonesome Road with Caesar's symbol.

Thanks for the help, i think i will use stimpacks sometimes, but try not to become overly dependent on them (i.e be able to kill of a bunch of ncr troopers without them) but since Caesar doesn't use chems because he wants his men to be tough and not fear death, i'm pretty sure he makes exceptions for high ranking people that he needs alive, like himself and i'm guessing they had to use something for lanius when his face got torn off, I think your right about OWB DarkZerker because they do use a howitzer and centurions do use advance weapons, i think the the thing with the legion is they don't want the younger legionaries using advanced weapons so they won't be too dependent on them, but if you have trained enough to handle any situation, you can use the good stuff.

I don't think you need both Melee and Unarmed, I'd tag one of these and then increase the other one in a regular manner.I'd tag Melee at the beginning because you have access to good weapons from the very beginning, the same can't be said for Unarmed weapons, at least I think so.I think you'll Sneak skill too need it because if you don't want your reputation to be immediately vilified by the NCR, you'll have to perfrom stealth kills. I also think that makes it more logical, because that way you'll have access to a lot of NCR quests and you can sabotage some of them for the Legion. I'd use Legion armor, but also another common apparel for visiting towns or NCR camps like caravaneer outfit e.g.My third tag would be Survival as you too said.

Once you do become vilified by the NCR, make sure to obtain an NCR uniform, and then wear it while wiping out camp mccarren. That's always a blast.

Can Is still do quests like "i put a spell on you" if i have ncr armor and am vilified, because i remember once i was disguised but was still shot on site, also does anyone use companions with the legion, i was thinking rex, but i can't think of a humanoid that fits the bill

I think you can't complete this quest, but I'm not entirely sure. Rex is a good choice, maybe ED-E too.

I checked the wiki, Curtis will see through your NCR disguise.

Veronica doesn't care, nor does Raul. I always pick up Arcade

And sell him. He's useless as anything other than a slave to Caesar.

Agree! For my Legion playthrough I played a spy! So that meant doing some NCR quests to gain their trust. I stole NCR tags until I got Idolized by the Legion. It's my Ninja playthrough so I'm good with both unarmed and melee combat, as well as some explosives for pants.

As for the NCR quests I did do, I did the ones that had little to no effect on the Legion. Like turning in Motor-Runner's helmet, Helping around camp forlorn hope while doing We are Legion. All that fun stuff.

In fact, Raul seems to favour the Legion somewhat. Though Veronica is going get all upset when you

Does Lily care if you're Legion? I don't usually recruit Lily so I don't know.

Violently.

OT: I find a Frumentarii makes more sense as a playthrough than a Legoinaire, personally speaking. Unarmed is possibly the most powerful combat skill in the game, and arguably the most versatile for a stealthy playstyle, so tag Unarmed. Unarmed depends on Endurance, and Survival is also benefited by Endurance, so tag Survival. With Survival tagged, you have no need to tag Medicine, so tag Sneak instead. Sneak depends on Agility, which should be set to 7 so as to provide Sneak with a good value and unlock the Slayer perk later in the game. Now, with two tag skills depending on Endurance, Endurance should be 8-9 which will also allow you to take advantage of implants.

Just my idea of a good basis for a Frumentarii.

You don't have to be evil to be legion, you know. Oh and "From what I hear the legionaires mount each other as often as their women"-Cass(was it? I'm not 100% sure, some NPC anyway).

There seems to be an NCR Ranger seriously insulting the banner of Caesar. Liberater, eliminate him.

Hmm. Shame you have no purpose right now, but that'll change when the Great Bull itself rides west. The Legion you see right now is merely a shadow of the glorious spectacle in Arizona.
