Need help with specs...

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 11:55 pm

I know, I know. People are sick of seeing threads asking about system specs and whatnot, but I'm not tech savvy, and I could really use some help in determining whether or not I'm gonna get this for PC or PS4. According to the systemlabsrequirements website, my graphics card isn't good enough. I have the AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series, and the minimum is the AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB. That, I understand. What I don't understand is that my graphics card has all the minimum requirements listed there (Pixel Shader 5.0, Vertex Shader 5.0, and 2gb of dedicated video ram) but it still says it's not good enough. So basically, I want to know if my computer just won't run it at high settings, or won't run it at all?

I'm running the same Graphics Card you are, and I have been informed that I will be able to play the game as long as I "don't get too crazy with the settings". Not entirely sure what that means, but I assume that I will be able to play the game on low or medium without too much trouble. I still plan to upgrade my Graphics Card as soon as I can, but I should still be able to play the game at launch.

Yeah, I want to upgrade mine eventually, as well, but damn they're pricey. I don't care about running on super high settings, at least not right away, as long as my PC can play it. I don't wanna miss out on mods when they start getting pumped out. I can't imagine console mods are going to be very exciting.

If you mean the Radeon HD 7870 2GB, those specs are for the minimum requirements.

Do you have at least a decent CPU ???

On the other site, Pete Hines tweeted that the PS4 version will run at 1080p 30fps (locked)

Actually on a question related to the PS4 version:

Hey Pete I'm getting PS4 for Xmas and wanted to ask does the consoles version of #Fallout4 run without any FPS problems? #Worried

Pete Hines ?@DCDeacon

@Mathew_J_Cooke solid 30 FPS. I play it all the time. I think you'll be pleased.

So, that's you answer - if you thing your PC can't keep up with the game...

Just to help with general understanding - there's a bunch of different cards in the "7800 series". They may all have the same feature details (Pixel Shader 5, 2gb VRAM, etc), but they are stronger or weaker than each other. (kind of like you could have the same car, with anti-lock brakes, GPS, and electronic fuel injection, but if one of them has a 200hp engine and another has a 300hp engine, the 300hp one will be faster.)

The 7870 is near the top end of the "7800 series", so there are other 7800 series GPUs that would be weaker than it.

(The 7870 "Tahiti" is faster than the 7870, which is faster than the 7850. Of course, just to make it more complicated, different card sellers will make up their own overclocked/supercooled/etc versions of those. So one 7850 model might be stronger than another 7850. And if there's a mobile/laptop version of the chip, it'll generally be weaker. Whee!)

...all that said, if your card is a 7850, it's not incredibly weaker than a 7870. So you could still be able to run the game at lower settings.

@exfactor

If i really want to enjoy a game i make sure to not barely scraqe by the minimum specs..

You probably have the radeon 7850 not the 7870 that might be why specs aint up to scratch. so in fact (if thats the case) you're below spec..

If you can.. get a cheap GTX 960.. it does ALOT beter on DX11 games and its fairly cheap..

If you got a decent budget to upgrade go for a 970/980 itll last you a few years.

I figured it out after a lot of searching. The systemrequirementslab site doesn't read my graphics card properly, claiming it's just the 7800 series and not 7850 or 7870. I was able to find my device id, which is 6818, popped that into Google, and it came up as the Radeon HD 7870 2GB.

Well, at a guess it means don't play with view distances, don't run nice looking shadows, avoid crazy texture replacers. Looking at the difference between min and max recommended cards the difference is large. Like 2x the memory bandwidth, and 2x the memory among other things...

Thats comparing minimum amd card you have, against the max amd card. If you compared it against nvidia it probably be even worse. I am biased against amd though, hate their driver support. :bunny:
