Need help with warrior build

Post » Sun May 01, 2011 11:39 pm

I've never played Morrowind without using cheats and having the slider at -100, but now that I'm older I want to actually play the game as it was meant to be played.

Never been one for the mage or thief type characters, I'm all for melee. My favorite race is the Imperials, and I want to build an Imperial warrior. Figured I could use some help here.

Will be playing at default difficulty. As I said, I'm using an Imperial, Male.

I want to make a custom class, but I want it to be based on a Warrior. In other words, I want to use as little magic/stealth stuff as possible, but still be able to get by. Unfortunately, I don't know what will work and what won't.

For attributes I'm thinking Strength and Endurance? Makes the most sense to me, but then I suppose agility would be good too maybe? Some people say always use Strength and Intelligence?

For the sign, I'd really like to use the Warrior, mostly for RPing purposes. If this is an extremely bad choice though, let me know.

Skills.

For major I'm thinking - Long Blade, Heavy Armor, Block, Marksman, Restoration.
For minor skills - Athletics, Armorer, Mercantile, Speechcraft, Acrobatics.

I figured Restoration would probably be my best bet for healing myself. (I don't want Alchemy as a skill because it's just too overpowered.)
So should I go with Intelligence as an attribute then? Or stick with Endurance?

I guess it's safe to say I'm trying to RP a bit too. I'd like my skills to be believable for a warrior. This is why i didn't include Alteration (seems extremely useful though).

Anyway, does anyone think I'll be able to make it with this build, or will I get utterly eviscerated? Any suggestions are welcome, just know I'm adamant on my race and combat style as opposed to stealth or magic.
Oh and I don't want to use light or medium armor either, gotta be heavy.

Restoration can be more difficult to level than you might think, since potions are always quicker and easier to use.

But otherwise, you've chosen one of the easiest characters to play. You won't have any problems.

I would replace Mercantile with Blunt.

I've just finished the main quest with an Orc Warrior. I had Mercantile as a minor skill, but even after a month playing I didn't leveled it very much. As I used mainly the creeper at the beginning (selling loots gained from Fighters Guild quests), I quickly ended at 200K gold and then stopped bartering. I ended buying stuff like potions at the proposed price (with that amount of gold you stop caring).

Plus, there are some cool hammers out there, you may want to use something else as long blades.

Another side effect having gold as much as 100-200K is to be able to sell expensive loot otherwise difficult to do (I once tried selling a 20K whatever-it-was to the Creeper, it was painfull and involved 30 in-game days). Just enchant some object with constant effect (like an exquisite ring with constant Fortify Strength 24 pts), it may cost up to 100K. Just after sell every expensive stuff you have, without any bartering. You can then dispose all of your loot, while enchanting really cool stuff, and still maintaining your gold level. As I said, no bartering nor any mercantile skill involved...

This is of course if you plan to use the Creeper. You may go on more regular ways.

I'd recommend having a way to open locks and traps. For that you either need the combo of Alteration and Mysticism for Open and Telekinesis, Security or Enchant for scrolls and amulets of open/telekinesis. Enchant is easiest I reckon since you don't actually need it as a major or minor since you can just get the NPC enchanters to make your amulets. As well as that, agility is good for dodging and hitting with your sword and I find it's harder to raise than strength and endurance when playing a warrior, I like to have the Lover to raise my agility at the start to hit a bit more often early on. That's just me though.

I agree with Pluto that warrior types are easiest to play though, you should do well.

Ok, I think I'll switch my restoration to security, and change my mercantile to blunt. then just stick it out with strength and endurance.

Thanks so much for the help.

I recommend using a Spear or Halberd often. The Spear skill is governed by Endurance, and you will get bonuses for Endurance when you level up. This will ultimately give you a lot of hit points. You don't even have to have Spear as major or minor....I always do however. Just something to be aware of.
Sounds like a pretty good warrior build.
You might like Block....I never use it however, because I don't like the extra weight of carrying and using a shield, and they are only usable with one handed weapons.
Have Fun!

Don't overlook shields though. They are the best armor part for constant effect enchantments, and they work even if you have a two-handed weapon, just wear one.
