Need modding help!

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:04 am

So, this being my third attempt at installing oblivion mods I still manage to mess up with the textures and body replacers. So Here are some pictures I took ingame that may shed some light on the problem for those of you who are more experienced in oblivion modding. I used both BAIN and OMM.

http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198040815669/screenshots/?tab=public

I also check the Archive Invalidation file and this is what I found:

textures/menus80/icons/clutter/iconbook3.dds
textures/menus/icons/clutter/iconbook3.dds
textures/menus50/icons/clutter/iconbook3.dds
textures/dungeons/chargen/prisoncellwall03.dds

This was after going to the utilities section and selecting Archive Invalidation in OBMM

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel like ripping all of my hair off my head from frustration with this.

Have you rebuilt your bashed patch correctly? That is essential to get race mods working together.

This is a good guide to the various options in the bashed patch. Some things can be checked safely, while others will mess up your game: http://oblivionworks.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/oblivionworks/Programs/Wrye%20Bash/Mopy/patch_option_reference.html

Your bashed patch should look similiar to this before you rebuilld it:

Yes, I am sure that the bashed patch is rebuilt correctly and my pashed patch looks similiar to that picture.

Posting your load order might be helpful. (In the Bash 'Mods' tab, right-click 'File', select 'List mods')

You're trying to use Modular Beautiful People 2ch Ed++ right? It looks like you're missing a lot of resources. MPB 2ch v1.4 is required for it to work. Did you install that correctly? Also make sure you didn't activate both the japanese and english esps.

As a side note, I'd say if you want a tidy install, definitely use BAINs over OMODs whenever possible. Convert OMOD-only mods as necessary. The only reason I might prefer an OMOD would be if it included an install script that contained lots of INI changes, or shaders, as mentioned previously.

Okay, I'm confused. Please list the race-related OMODs and BAINs you have installed.

MaleBodyReplacerV4.esp and Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleReplacerV4.esp shouldn't be active at the same time. What happens when you uncheck MaleBodyReplacerV4.esp?

By race related do you mean the mods I am using that replace the character models? well here they are:
through OMMD:
HGEC
EVE HGEC (and the OOO, MMM, Warcry and FCOM ones),
Robert's MaleModleReplacer fixes (Stock, OOO, Frans, SI, MMM)

Through BAIN:
Robert's Male Body Replacer
Better looking Bosmers
Better looking Dumners
Better looking Redguards
NPC Face Color Unlock
Natural Faces
I-FEV
Danis13's Beauty patch for Natural Faces
COBL
Beautiful People 2ch-ed v1.8.0 Fixed

if that's not what you meant then did you mean what appears in the Race Records that appears right before making the Bashed patch? Then here it is:
Beautiful People 2ch-Ed.esm
MaleBodyReplacer.esp
Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.esp
Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleBodyReplacer.esp
EVE_KhjjiFix.esp
Mart's Monster Mod - Resized Races.esp
Better Looking Dark Elves.esp
Better Looking Redguards v2.esp
Better Looking Wood Elves Vanilla.esp
Better Looking Wood Elves Black Eyes.esp
Better Looking Wood Elves COBL.esp

And what happens when I click the MaleBodyReplacer.esp is that there will be either a + or a check in that box. Also All I have been doing is following this guide http://www.somethingfornobody.com/2011/oblivion-modding-guide/ since I did not know what mods I wanted to install other than one so all I have been doing is what that and the readmes say.

Hope this helps

13 Natural_Weather_by_Max_Tael.esp
14 Natural_Weather_HDR_by_Max_Tael.esp

16 All Natural.esp [Version 1.33]

Also, do not use both of these at the same time, that's very clear in the ReadMe. All Natural incorporates Natural Weather, as well as others, it's really all you need.

And a little friendly advise... Just because a guide says to install something, if you don't know what it is, or don't know if you want it, then don't install it.

Now I remember, Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleBodyReplacer.esp came with Robert's v4, didn't it? Since you don't use Beautiful People v2.2, it's a very bad idea to use it. Disable Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleBodyReplacer.esp entirely. Rebuild your bashed patch with it unchecked in Race Records, and make sure the check box is blank in your mod list.

Also only check one esp for Better Looking Wood Elves, not all three. Since you have BP2ch, I expected the one you'd be using would be Better Looking Wood Elves Beautiful People 2ch.esp

Well, I did as you said and disabled Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleBodyReplacer.esp but everything is still out of whack EXCEPT for the wood elves so now they look normal. So if anything it's some progress and here is my current load order:

You're still using 2 esps for Better Looking Wood Elves. Keep only one.

The simplest solution I see would be to uninstall BP2ch. Plus it looks like it's not installed correctly. You don't really need it for Better Looking Wood Elves. Just don't use the Better Looking Wood Elves Beautiful People 2ch.esp

If you really want to keep BP2ch, make sure you installed the whole thing. The full archive is supposed to be around 300Mb, so it's usually hosted as a 3 part download. Did you miss a part, maybe?

(Also posted in a similar, recent, thread.)

Maybe we should create a "recommended mods" sticky thread or wiki page (UESP?) for all the new guys. Although there's a lot of disagreement on what categories of mods are essential, it seems to me that there's a high degree of consensus amongst the longtime community members on what is essential within a given category (UI overhauls, lore-friendly quest additions, item graphics replacers, etc.)

That same thread/wiki page should also state where the most recent version of a given mod can be found, what thread to go to for help or bug reports, and the development status of the mod. (It would be a "mod index" of sorts.) For example, who else knew that Robert's Female 1.3 and Male 5.2 just came out a few days ago? How can a newbie know what OOO and MMM do, that they are still under development, and that Kragenir's Death Quest 2.12 just came out even though its thread title says 2.1 is the last version? How can a newbie wade through the 4 or 6 different versions of MMM, MOBS, etc. posted on TESNexus+Planet Elder Scrolls+TESAlliance+custom sites like Slof's and find the "right" one?

The key is, whatever form such a page takes, it needs to be updateable and monitored constantly by the community as a whole. That way, it won't become outdated like so many "must-have-mod" webpages have. I'd also recommend that we establish some ground rules on how to determine when to add (or remove) a mod. Something like this:
1. The community "votes" for 10 to 50 well-established mod authors - like kivan, Arthmoor, TheNiceOne, CorePC, etc. Each of them would become voters for the "recommended mods" list (provided they're willing, of course). (Alternatively, we could give everyone with a Disciple rank or higher on this board, or the equivalent on PES and TESAlliance, a vote.)
2. All the possible "categories" a mod can fall into would be defined by this group. (I could take a shot at this too.)
3. Depending on the size of each category, the mod authors would have 1 to 10 mods they could recommend as "essential" for that category. There would also be five extra "floating" votes they could apply to any category. And they would be able to veto one mod if desired.
4. The PRIMARY mod author cannot vote for their own mods. TheNiceOne can't vote on Useful Houses, sorry :)
5. The top voted mods would be added to the page. It would need to be a SHORT list - say, no more than 50 mods. The general community could update information about those mods, but could not add/remove entries from the list. (This would, of course, have to be monitored if it's on a wiki page.)

(BTW--if the consensus is that such a thing is a good idea, I could serve as Parliamentarian :))

Alright, got rid of BP2ch and have only one of the wood elve esps active. Most of the characters look normal now except that they have black eyes for some reason but it is still the vanilla models and not Robert's and HGEC which still has me scratching my head and some of models are still messed up.

To be honest, in many cases I don't believe this is true. For quests, maybe. But not even for purely aesthetic mods... for instance, I seriously dislike Robert's pencil-shaded abs. ;) And once you get into gameplay, all bets are off. In fact, I can think of a lot of people who will completely endorse two incompatible and mutually exclusive mods, because they switch back and forth between them.

There are certainly a few mods that are very popular in their categories, but that's frequently a matter of simply being the most well-known. People hear about Mod X first, try it and like it, then never try any of the alternatives (if they even hear about them). And then there's that many more people recommending Mod X when the next round of newbies show up, and Mods Y and Z fade further from view. To pick an example I can be neutral about: DarNified UI. In my personal opinion it's terribly ostentatious and overwrought, getting in the way as much as it helps. I use BTmod, an elegant and minimal alternative (and IIRC, the basis for DarN's further modifications). But that's probably only because I encountered BTmod first, and played with it for a while before everyone started shouting DarN's name from the rooftops. "Oh," I thought, "This must be better!" So I tried it. Not for me. :P (And no slight meant to DarN, he's put a lot of hard work into interfaces for multiple games. This really is just a matter of taste. Also of functional console fonts.)

And although I can't claim neutrality on this one: take a look at Nexus's download numbers for http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14065, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13879... and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1888!

Hell, I don't even see the point of FCOM personally. Each of the components, yes. MMM + any of the rest, sure. The whole ball of wax? IMO at a certain point, adding more stuff doesn't enrich the experience, only dilutes it. That's obviously an opinion much of the community disagrees with... but I think such disagreements are the primary reason no such page already exists. ;)

What I think really could be handy, though, is a dedicated comparison site. I mean high-quality, deeply anolytic and generally neutral comparisons, like the ones bg2408 has done for scaling and magic overhauls. Keep those current, keep people informed of the new options and help them get an idea of whether they'll like something before investing 10-15 hours trying it out.

What is your OS and where is Oblivion installed? If you're on Win7 or Vista, It's recommended to install Oblivion outside Program Files, in C:\Games for example, since UAC is known to interfere with mod utilities and prevent them from modifying and installing files. You might have to move your Steam installation.

from earlier in the topic:

OS: Window's 7 (running 64bit)

Game is installed at: C:\games\Steam\steamapps\common/oblivion

I moved the entire steam folder to here just for oblivion.

 Right, sorry. UAC problems ruled out. You're certain the mods are installed correctly? You have the body meshes inside meshes/characters/male? If Robert's and HGEC are installed, the meshes for the body parts should be there. Any eye meshes in meshes/characters/imperial? Do you have Oblivion's latest version? (latest is 1.2.0416 - check OB's Readme inside the Oblivion folder) What are the last modified dates for Oblivion's BSAs? I'm grasping here, but maybe they need to be redated.

Ah, so that's where you find out what version you have. Yes I have the latest version of Oblivion and since HGEC was an OMOD file with the omod conversion folder I assume it was installed correctly but to be honest with what has been happening I am not sure. After a bit a digging around the mesh and texture files I realized I am not really sure what I was looking for :banghead: and as for the BSA thing I am not sure how to find that out.

Inside the meshes/characters/_male folder, there should be files named femalefoot, femalehand, femaleupperbody, femalelowerbody, foot, hand, upperbody and lowerbody. If that is not there, that means your body mods didn't get installed correctly.
For the BSAs, just hover your cursor over one, like Oblivion - meshes.bsa (or right-click and check Properties), and check the last modified date. It should be from 2006.

The files are there and the BSA files last modification was 2006.

At this point, I really don't know what the problem might be. I'm sorry I can't be of much help. The 'mod content not appearing' problem leaves me utterly perplexed. If you manage to work things out somehow, I'd like to know how you did it.

What I decided to do is uninstall oblivion again for the 3rd time and I am going to manually install HGEC and MBR and see if they work. I have a suspicion that it might have something to do wit hthe Better looking redguards and elves mods (especially the elves mods since they require extra to work). If it works then I'm just gonna go with it and probably ignore all other mods since what ever I do it just won't work

So I did a clean install of oblivion and I placed in the files for Robert's Male Body Replacer mod. There was no meshes folder in the data folder so I dropped that in there along with just the MaleBodyReplacer.esp and not the Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleReplacerV4.esp. Then I opened Wrye Bash, I clicked MaleBodyReplace.esp so that it was activated, ran BOSS and then bashed the patch. Then I ran Oblivion and slected data files to make sure that BaleBodyReplacer.esp was check and it wasn't, so I checked there again. Then I started the game and started a new file and this time I had just the vanilla head showing with no body. Am I really doing something so horribly wrong? I feel like I am just constantly bashing my head up against a wall like this -> :banghead:

In the bashed patch under "Tweak Actors" there should be an option called "Redguard FGTS Nuller" that must be selected for better redguards to work. Did you try this?

Structure the folder into a BAIN ready archive and install it that way.

And there definitely should be meshes included with any body replacer.
