I need a new PC game.

Post » Fri Sep 10, 2010 6:47 pm

Right now on my computer I have: Mafia II, Minecraft, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Team Fortress 2. I've played most of these to death so I need a new game to occupy my free time, I'm not looking for anything online unless it's absolutely exceptional. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I just bought the Civ IV complete edition and have downloaded http://hedgewars.org/screenshots.html for free. I expect those will keep me quite busy for a long while... And when you're done playing those, Minecraft may just be substantially different again.

I'm not a big fan of RTS games.

Do you like 4X space games? Masters of Orion I and II, or Alpha Centauri for a great Civ experiance, but not based on Earth though. Baulders Gate I and II. Do you want current since the games I listed are old.

How about Arena or Daggerfall. I didn't check to see if you can still download them from the Bethesda's new site or not.

The good news is neither of the games I listed are RTS!

The bad news is if you don't like real-time strategy, you'll probably like turn-based even less. Which would indeed make Civ a no-go, despite it being arguably the best of its genre.

The good news is Hedgewars is arcade action; it's a Worms clone, so it's just fun times blowing stuff up.

Yes you can still download them from the new site. Just saw DAGGERFALL the other day with a cool page setup as if it had just came out. I second ARENA and especially DAGGERFALL which is still totally playable.

Other recommendations are:

PAINKILLER series
NECROVISION
DIVINITY II EGO DRACONIS
LEFT FOR DEAD 1+2 ( I only play single player and its great)
QUAKE 4
DOOM 3
TORCHLIGHT

The games I mentioned are TBS not RTS games. Also we must have posted at the same time, since I didn't see your RTS comment.

As long is the games aren't ancient I'll give them a look.

Morrowind

Oblivion

I had both before but I just couldn't get into them, I love RPGs but I'm not big on medieval-fantasy RPGs.

My bad, I thought Civ was a RTS, then again I've never followed the series. I also don't hate turn-based combat it's not my first choice, it would bring back fond memories of Earthbound and Pokemon Blue as a child.

FEAR

I'd rather spend my time actually playing the game than sitting in constant fear...

If you have never played HL2, you should then just chuck your computer out the window.

When will he release a threaded Cuda version?
(Or one with SDL? :toughninja: )

I'd like to add Homeworld 1 & 2, and HW Cataclysm to my suggestions; as well as Myth 1 & 2... But I don't know where to find those ~so I've no links.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Any of them. Though it would be ok if you decided to skip Clear Sky. Call of Pripyat is the most recent, bug free and stable one and the most user friendly so you should start there so that you don't have a bad time with Shadow of Chernobyl or Clear Sky and sour your opinion on the rest of the series. Not because they're bad but most people I've seen play them for the first time get slaughtered because they think it's just another incredibly easy CoD like FPS where you don't need to lean or use cover.

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines - Combat is bad. Story, characters and dialogue are amazing.

Left 4 Dead - Self explanatory

Machinarium - This one depends on whether or not you have the patience for point and click game play.

Crysis 1 - Not as hard to run as hype would have you believe. I have an integrated GPU and I run it with no lag with the graphical settings turned down. It's not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but it's at least competent and should give you something to occupy yourself with before you kick the bucket.

Total War series - Rome is the best. If Empire or Napoleon total war appeal to you, just go for Napoleon and skip Empire no matter what you do since it's basically the same as Napoleon but Napoleon gives generals their own abilities and is nowhere near as buggy. It also runs at a much higher FPS. I can run it with no lag and yet I put Empire in and I barely hit 20 FPS.
