Need Opinion on Melee Build

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:32 am

I'm working on a melee character and need criticism to know if I have the right Idea. I like having Criticals so Heavy Handed isn't for me.

Perk's aren't all listed in order

1.Intense Training (Strength)

6.Silent Running or Travel Light (Can't Decide Need Opinion)
7.Jury Rigging
8.Stonewall

I'd move 1 or 2 points from INT to LCK... Perks seem cool.

Well, one problem there is that you are planning on taking Better Criticals but your starting PER is 1. You need PER 6 for that. I would consider taking points out of INT and maybe 1 from END (losing the HP regen implant is really not a big deal at all IMO). Between Educated and Comprehension I think maybe buffing INT so much would not be necessary and something will have to give, and you can't pull any more from AGI unless you take Small Frame over one of your current traits.

I think most of your perks are good though. Life Giver may prove unnecessary with such high END and DT; once you have Super Slam rolling (and the Ranger Takedown to open an engagement with a forced knockdown if necessary) you may just not need the additional HP. I can see the logic of building towards a tank though. Personally I'd take Silent Running over Travel Light but they are both good. The only melee perk I don't see on your list (besides Cowboy which is not specifically melee) is Unstoppable Force, but outside of maybe the aforementioned Life Giver I think I'd stick with most of the perks on your list.

What weapons are you going to be using? If the answer isn't Combat Knife, Bladed Gauntlet, Mantis Gauntlet, or Deathclaw Gauntlet then you most definitely should be taking heavy handed. Most of your fights you wont be sneak criting people so Heavy Handed adds more damage then you would be getting from critical hits unless you are using weapons with higher crit multipliers.

If I don't take heavy handed and keep my crit chance build the same, I will have...

Luck:7
1st Recon Baret:5
Finesse:5
Ninja:15

a total of 32% chance to critial hit, plus I can use the magazine of +5( +10 because of Comprehension) for tougher battles. Would Heavy Handed still be a better option than having a high crit chance? (I dunno, I'm just asking).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Heavy Handed only reduces the damage done by criticals, but increases normal hits. So you crit perks and stuff wont be wasted, just wont be as effective if you didn't take Heavy Handed.

In my build I took 0 traits and have been using the Bladed Gauntlet for a long time, very good weapon and you get it early in, I'm around 15/16 on this character and still using it. Debating whether to replace it with Love/Hate which I picked up recently.

I'll post my perk choices which I planned out, plus special etc. when I get home.

Is this melee or melee weapon build?

Endurance become less important as you level, you will also be amazed how everything bar DeathClaw go against you. Travel Light is awesome as long as you keep tracking which armour is light. While against Deathclaws it would just be few does of chems (which you save from ammo money) with some form of Power Armour.
