We need REAL trolls like this, not apes.

This is my first TES game and loving it (also on PS3) but one thing I don't understand is why are the apes called trolls? They are just apes, I wish they were something more like this.

Looks way more like an orge then a troll, trolls aren't suppose to be bald but I agree trolls in TES don't look like mythological ones either, neither does the picture you have found. This is because different companies and people define and redefine these things in their own ways as they go along and some don't even match up to the mythological being at all.

I think ghouls are probably the worst, ghouls are not undead creatures in mythology but yet how many games have ghouls down as undead creatures? Ghouls may sometimes look similar to zombies but are in fact living beings that feast on corpses and undead, they're not undead themselves; In fact Ghouls are more like genies then they're undead. Shape Shifting may also be a part of a ghoul's arsenal of powers, never seen a game with shape shifting ghouls tho.

Well let's take Santa Claus for instance...

Not the best example, he looks the way he does now because of a successful coca cola ad campaign to try and sell their soda better during the winter months. Prior to that he had no consistent look. Sometimes fat, sometimes skinny, sometimes with a beard and sometimes without. He also wore whatever colors the artist felt like :whistling:

People can't have different interpretation of a troll? Damn, I didn't know they are had a set model for a troll across all game and movies.

Evolution, Khajiit are descended from normal cats from the Elsweyr Region. Some Khajiit sub-species still appear similar to domesticated cats but are vastly more intelligent and powerful.

LOTR doesn't control the dictionary on what constitutes a troll. It's an interpretation. The Harry Potter movie had a rather silly interpretation of a troll; or maybe it was an ogre; I don't know. I didn't like it. They stuck a wand up its nose.

How about vampires? Twilight movies define vampires as metrosixuals that sparkle in the sunlight. Another interpretation..and one I loathe.

Skyrim has their own interpretation of a troll...and I think it looks just fine.

Thats an urban myth. The "red santa" was in widespread usage before coca-cola even thought about using it for its ad campaign.

Trolls have spikes on their shoulders, regenerate from damage, are weak to fire, have three eyes, have massive tusks, have gnarly claws, can punch a werewolf the [censored] out, and can withstand the harshest snows.

Apes do not have any of the above features.

And really, how interesting would fantasy be if every troll, orc, elf, human, etc. was an exact carbon copy of LotR? The answer is 'Not Very'. So, instead of trying to get Bethesda to stagnate the creativity of the fantasy genre, let them make their trolls as unique as they want.

Edit: Not to mention many of LotR's races are kind of uninteresting, in my opinion. Elves are super-strong, lightning fast, have flawless balance, immortality, are more agile and athletic, are smarter and wiser, and generally have kinder hearts. They're so perfect, I want to jab myself when I see people that praise LotR elves for being the best elves.

I think we've gone far enough to show that LOTR trolls are themselves an entirely unique interpretation by Tolkien and not based on their actual mythology =P.

Hmmm, not read LOTR myself, only seen the movies but they do seem a bit mary sue-ish even in those.

I think it was a bit worse in the movies, actually. There were at least SOME evident flaws that many elves had in the books.

Although, in the movies, every main character was insanely powerful. Legolas killing an oliphant, Aragorn killing three dozen uruk-hai by himself, Boromir getting shot with three [censored] arrows and surviving for fifteen minutes, etc.

Here are trolls in Norse/Scandinavian Troll mythology/folklore...

Wouldn't that look silly? I prefer Bethesdas. I would rather they make up their own style of creatures than carbon copy traditional ones like everyone else.

You know, at the same time the movie Trollhunter actually made Trolls that look like that, a rather plausible threat.

Well think about this, a troll is a fictional being that (in Elder Scrolls) has 3 eyes, an ape in a non-fictional being with 2 eyes, see what I'm getting at.
