We need a Scrapper

Or rework the Scavenger Bench.

Any item that has multiple uses like the flip lighter (steel and oil) you only get one of those when you use it. Steel or Oil. However, you drop it on the ground and break it down in Workshop mode, and those components are seperated.
This is Extremely tedious however, no one wants to do that.
So maybe with the Scaveging bench, on top of collecting materials, they Automatically break down the base components. If that isn't possible, make a Scrapper machine that you store items in and it does it for you. Maybe make it a Workshop upgrade instead, so they are broken down and stored at the same time.

Just a thought! Hopefully this is doable, and is done.

Thanks for reading. = )

Nope, when its used it auto scraps the item and ads what wasn't used into storage. So there is no need, just store the items in the workshops inventory as normal.

Also there are some JUNK items that need to be fully intact to make things with. Baseballs needed for baseball grenades and other drugs as well need in tact JUNK items.

It's been proven to death that a junked item during a mod or building with it all the excess gets stored. There is a visual bug that it doesn't show but it's there and will be there once you close and open the workshop from my understanding.

I've built a scavenge station. How can I tell it's working? I have such a large inventory of junk, I can't really tell if the scavenge station is adding to it without writing down long lists of what junk I have.

You will need to assign a Settler to it.

It will be hard to do since the station only increases the amount of Junk you get from your settlers. So by default a unassigned settler will produce scrap (Banging on the house or something else), and if you build a scavenge station it will make that assigned settler produce more JUNK. How much more I'm not sure.

There's SOOOO much junk in the world that it's not that big a deal in my experience. Not to mention that when I'm looking for specific components I just tag them at the bench and then the items are highlighted with a magnifying glass item in all menus, and objects in the world containing those tagged ingredients are highlighted and glow. Super-handy. If you spend enough time out in the field you don't need to micromanage junk so much.

That's so obvious, I thought I didn't need to mention it. I was more asking how others verify the scavenge station is working? How can we all tell how much junk is produced by having one (assigned) without writing down 100s of misc items and the quantities stored? It would be nice if one could assign which raw material(s) to scavenge for.

You really can't tell, but, having 3 folks assigned to 3 scavenging tables does make a notable difference in what is coming in. On average, I get 10-30 wood, 10-20 steel and then miscellaneous more than was in their 24 hours previously. I think it must be random since they occasionally come up with some pretty good stuff too.

The only way I can think of to do this would be to clear out the workstation of JUNK at one location after making the tables, assign some people to them, and then go in and see. I haven't been able to get my settlements linked as of yet (Just got local leader a level or two back and still waiting for my settler to transfer to AF) but I have one scrapping station in AF and was going to record the scrap but forgot.

Nice. I'm going to do this and see if it's really worth it. Thanks for the idea.

I built the sauaging station just because it looked cool sitting around my workstations. I did assign a settler to it, but honestly I have so much junk now I'd never know if it was working or not. I have no reason to think it isn't though.

I would love a 'Scrap All' option when looking at the workstation storage, but as others have said there are some items you need whole. In fact to build some things needed in the MQ you need a few hard to find items whole. I was lucky in that I already had them sitting in my workbench storage.

That's a good idea! I think I'll try that when I get home this evening and see what happens.

I think it would be a great idea to have a new workstation that looked like a chipper or something, that you could transfer items to and then hit a button to JUNK all. So all those things you bring back that are outfits and not armor you could throw that in there along with the weapons and armor you don't want. Would be better than dropping them on the ground and scrapping manually.... 20 harness's dropped on the ground and Dogmeat decides to scatter them while I was scrapping!!! Bad Dogmeat....
