Need some help for Arena and Daggerfall

Hi,

While waiting for Skyrim, I wanted to try my hand at Arena and Daggerfall (I'm also trying to finish Oblivion (with OOO)), but I've a few problems (gameplay only. They work on my computer just fine).

Arena:
When I first get out of the imperial dungeons, I'm completely lost. I know what to do to continue the main quest, but I'd rather do some side-quest to gain more levels and fatten my purse. The problem is that I can't find anyone who'd give me work. What kind of characters should I talk to to find quests?

Daggerfall:
Kind of a similar problem. The world is huge and kinda overwhelming (I knew immediately where I could find which services I needed in Oblivion whenever I'm out of a dungeon, but there, I have to actively search since I can't remember everyone in a world that size). And I don't know exactly which kind of characters can give me quests.

I once got a quest (rescue a child from the Dark Brotherhood), but when I find the residence, I found the door locked (UESP.net states that the doors shouldn't be locked). I can't understand how to lockpick it (it seems to activate only once per door), and I can't wait or bash the door before being greeted by a chorus of "HALT!"

I'm using the Daggerfall setup, by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. I've never really played Arena, but with Daggerfall you can join guilds and get quests; some of the quests are very lengthy though!

As far as the door being locked, maybe it was night? I haven't played DF in a few years so I can't remember how dynamic the house locking system is, but if it was night then that would explain why it's locked. Don't rest on the streets though! I'm sure that gets you in trouble with the guards.

Have fun!

In arena you can ask random people for work just keep asking and they should tell you to find an inn or a royal person wants your help. most of the side quests are deliveries. I personally think the best way to level up for me is find random dungeons outside the city gates and kill monsters.

Completely agree with this. Many of the side quests are tedious and low paying so I don't recommend them.

In Arena, doing an artifact quest is a great way to earn money and experience. You will have to go through two dungeons to get the artifact, but they're longer than the miscellaneous dungeons you find outside the city gates. Asking about rumors is the first step in getting the quest, but it sometimes takes a long time before anyone says something about another person who will give you a map for the first dungeon for a cost (usually not too much). The end result is well worth it though.
