Need some help on a warrior build

Post » Wed Oct 22, 2014 8:54 pm

Thinking of making a warrior avatar, Nord, probably 1h +shield with some back up magic like restoration for healing myself and conjuration for bound weapons in the start, possibly atracons.

Not sure about the armor. Do I go heavy for more protection or light for more agility/movement?

Also need some tips for the build. I guess smiting will be good, and 1h and shield, but do I need all perks or just a few. Also thinking of getting 3 points in conjuration so I can get free soulstone (as I never figured out how to get them otherwise).

Not made a decision on alchemy or enchanting yet. Might make a few potion for help and money, but not sure about the perks.

Would really appreciate some input on a build like this. Perks, stats, armor, fighting style and maybee some basic ideas of a background story as I haven't decided on one yet, exept that I want a Nord.

Any input would be welcome.

Never put anything into my magic skills. I prefer heavy armor, cause honestly you're gonna take some hits anyways and you move fast enough to handle yourself.

I got all the perks in Heavy Armor and Block, in 1h I got everything except the weapon bonus ones and focused only on one weapon (axes for me) taking everyone is probably fine though. I focused on the heavy side of smithing and chose the Lord Stone. How much blocking you do depends on the difficulty, but it's good to level up and some of the higher level perks are pretty sweet (running with your shield up etc.) Enchanting can work, I didn't use it, but I was going to (I lost my character). 50/50 Health and Stamina, IIRC soul trap was fairly easy to cast so even if I needed a soul gem I didn't need any perks etc. Get the black star if you really want a good amount of soul gems and grand souls.

As for specific gear, as a shield I would reccomend spell breaker which stacks great with the element resist perk for block, if you get the DP mask Otar it will give you even more resistance. This means that if you keep your shield up you are pretty much a wizards or dragons worst nightmare.

My build was an Orc though so you won't be getting the Berserk Rage, but greater powers doesn't really matter too much.

@ OP your build seems more like a battlemage/sorcerer than anything else. If you want to be a straight up battlemaster warrior I'd focus on all martial styles (bow included) and both armor styles. You can switch gear according to your situation and it has a lot more versatility when compared to the traditional 'heavy warrior'.

That's a lot of perks though, so I would still reckomend focusing on one at a time. As I said I never got to finish my build cause I lost my character. both Archery, 2h and enchanting were on the list. Never had any intentions of using light armor though.

It's like 6-7 skills. Isn't that the average build? Heavy and Light armors could be leveled at the same time by mix matching armor. The Lord Stone will add enough armor to mitigate the loss for not wearing a set. By the time both are maxed out it won't matter anymore. Light and Heavy each have their own advantages. With one handed, two handed, and archery you have all ranges covered. I'd go one handed to deal with bosses. And two handed when engaging multiple enemies.

My warriors usually go with one handed+shield or two handed. Heavy armour smithing maybe a little enchanting. Definately smithing. You'll be a beast. I'd stay away from conjuration just cause personally I'm usually a Nord that doesn't trust the dark arts. Restoration would work well.

When I create a warrior, I usually start with appearances. What armor set would you like to wear by end game? You can get it by smithing, but there may be other ways to find or buy it. If you use smithing you won't have to invest as much in your armor or weapon skills.

If you use a shield, the left side of the block tree will help you more defensively than the right, and no need to take all five perks in shield wall, because you can easily find a shield with a block enchantment on it.

If you go with two-handed warrior, alchemy pairs well, because you don't have to put your weapon down to take potions. Also, the sweep perk allows your poisons to hit multiple enemies (I think). Alchemy and enchanting are useful for many types of characters.

In order to collect souls in gems you don't need to take Conjuration perks. You need to buy empty gems and get a weapon that has a soul trap enchantment on it (easy to buy or find).
