Need something MOOOARRR!

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:41 pm

I've got tons of mods running, from graphic upgrades, to MMM, FOOK2 and many more. I'm looking for something to make the game more challenging, but not frustrating.

I always find myself with tons of caps -- mostly from selling ammo -- and tons of ammo I use for whatever weapons I have. I come across tons of stimpacks that it's pretty much muscle reflex to grab them up and hit the '8' key to use them in combat. Right now, I'm running a game with a female character wearing the stealth armor carrying an assortment of small arms but mainly figthing with the shock sword from Op. Anchorage.

I want something different! I want to feel like I'm really trying to survive out in the wasteland. Anybody have any suggestions? Here are some things I was thinking of:

Endurance set to 1 (making enemies immediately more dangerous).
Only survive on food and other drugs, but no stimpacks.
Wear a light armor, like the roving trader's outfit or something similar.
Use small guns, and maybe a machete for close combat.
No BC mines or Nuka grenades.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Play styles/restrictions? Mods that would be good for this type of play? Imagine Denzel Washington in The Book of Eli type character...or something along those lines.

PLEASE ADVISE!! :)

You might want to get this moved to the mod section if you are looking for mods.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was reading over FWE and Whoa! Lot's of great looking changes. Just one question, if you have the answer, hehe. I have about half a dozen mods that do some of the same things as FWE (grenade hotkey, bullet time, slower degredation, etc). Should I just wipe all those and utilize FWE? I figure so, just checking.

Do you know (if I get FWE) if I should make a character and build him as good as possible? I have no idea how drastic the changes FWE will make.

Thanks again!

I'm not looking for mods, specifically, just ideas for a new playthrough as described in the OP.

FWE will include all those mods (bullet time, sprint, slower degradation etc.). Having a second copy of them in your load order may cause problems, so dumping them, or turning them off, is a good idea.

I would build a normal character while using FWE. Try to avoid the stealth suit as it will make even FWE easier. The changes are very drastic. A hunting rifle, for instance, does 80 damage with FWE. Expect to feel weak and terrified of...well....everything. Great fun!

80 damage!? Wow. Guess I better make a decent character, then, haha!

Thanks!

try Arwen's Realism Tweaks with her less-is-more optional module and encumbrance mod. i have yet to experience the problem of too much caps, stims, or bullets.

Not really a fan or Arwen's Feminism Tweaks... the gender differences are kind of annoying and unnecessary

to each his own. :) im not too fond of the gender tweaks myself but i dont find it unbalancing and the good far outweighs any such relatively minor differences. but since the OP wants more challenge ART had to be mentioned :)

Don't forget to turn everything to the harshest setting. Especially loot rarity. :)

Goodness, I can't believe that my Gender bonuses/penalties (which are a tiny little part of my Tweaks), are THAT unpopular!

My Gender Differences merely add some very necessary diversity to character builds . . . and gender game play differences are pretty much non-existent in the default game. I mean, it doesn't make much sense to have different genders in a RPG, and then give male and female characters exactly the same stats. It seems like the only differences that most gamers care about is the eye-candy part.

Plus most of my Gender Differences can be compensated by just adjusting your initial SPECIAL point spread (which is something that will be a bit more balanced in v.4.7) . . . if you want a female character to have a greater carrying capacity, all you have to do is add another point to her Strength stat.

Another vote for Arwen's Tweaks here if you want a harsher Wasteland. o/

Managed to scraqe may through to level 12 and still have very few caps and ammo. My character's died A LOT. This is with a female character and I can't say the gender based tweaks have proved annoying.. On the contrary, it makes your stat selection all the more important and makes for a very interesting and challenging game.

Highly recommended!

Yeah, FWE or Arwen's Realism Tweaks should do the trick. :D
