I need this finally answered

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:32 pm

A few years ago i obsessively played Morrowind (common amongst thread readers i imagine), but never having access to an online community or like minded friends, i discovered almost everything on my own.

I searched for and read every book possible, every note , looked at pictures walls etc... Because i was convinced that all the information and clues had to lead to something. Whether it be tapping into the heart , solving the Nerevarine mystery, or anything that rewarded my obsession (although my obsession is very pale after reading some of the Lore posts).

I suspect what the answer is , but i feel i need to finally put it to rest and ask anyway -
Was there any other ending or reward that could be obtained?

Is this a lore question or a gameplay question?

Is this a lore question or a gameplay question?

It is a vague question im sorry , but i spent countless hours trying to unlock more in the game and understand more about the world with the simple question on my mind "Can i advance the game/story/my understanding any more than i have?". And i suppose by the level of thought and study on these forums probably answers that question for me. If there was any satisfaction to these mysteries i guess a place like elder scrolls lore wouldn't exist.

Yup. The books and stuff, with a very few exceptions (and no exceptions in Morrowind that I am aware of), are there simply to give you a better sense about the world the game takes place in. There are no in-game hints.

However, if you want a puzzle, read the Sermons of Vivec. Actually, your post suggests you already have. What do you think? I'd be interested in the perspective of someone who has done the work of a lore scholar, but outside the network of established lore scholars. You may provide a new perspective. :)

As far as gameplay goes, there's isn't really any big secret (except for the backpath, which is a shortcut for beating the main quest).

As far as advancing your understanding of the story and the world, there's a lot going on "behind the scenes" so to speak, in the elder scrolls series. The Morrowind main quest brings up a lot of topics of inquiry, like: the relationship between Azura and the Nerevarine, the relationship Nerevarine and Nerevar and the Tribunal, the nature of *divinity*, etc. To really understand the story of Morrowind you have to look into these topics. If you look into the lore (as you have), you'll find information pertaining to these topics. In principle the purpose of the lore forum is for a community of people to try to examine such topics. Unfortunately that's not always what happens. A lot of people venture into the lore forums without knowing much about the lore and unintentionally reveal their ignorance. This isn't really their fault, of course, but the result is you have a schism between people who know the lore well and those who don't, and the communication between those groups isn't always ideal. One result of this is that certain topics and questions reappear (in various guises) from time to time, and people who know the lore well have a tendency to stop paying attention to discussions which, as far as they're concerned, have already been talked to death. Also, a lot of people were turned off of the elder scrolls by Oblivion (I'm surmising Nigedo - see the stickies - left for this reason) and so don't post here anymore. Finally, there are other forums where people discuss lore (TIL, UESP), so a lot of discussion has been syphoned away from this forum (not saying whether that's good or bad).

That said, there are good discussions here from time to time. If you have any questions, ideas, etc (hopefully a bit more specific than this thread), read up to see if there have been any recent relevant forum discussions. If so, feel free to make some comments; if not, feel free to make a thread. You might start an interesting discussion.

There ain't much else then the ending that it's ending like if you strictly follow the MQ but it's very very much more interesting to read the notes and books you get through out the quest lines.

The closest in-lore we get to what you want is that mention in one of the pamphlets in Vivec's library about striking the heart with Keening and then Sundering over and over to destroy the enchantments on the heart or to obtain godhood like the Tribunal by striking Keening, Sunder, Keening, and then an "unknown third step that will not be revealed to the Nerevarine."

But only stripping the heart of its enchantments is in-game. Mainly because the previous game had six different endings and Bethesda didn't want to say "this is the official ending we're going with" and so used them all. Needless to say, it created a huge headache in trying to deal with all of them coming together and they didn't want to have to do that again.

Also because how the devil would you be able to fully realize the whole being a literal god thing within the limitation of the game's engine? Or of the human mind? There's a lot more to it than merely being powerful.

Even Shivering Isles only got away with it by implying that you'd grow into your dei-a-rific role long after you got sick of playing.
