Need tips regarding dual-wielding style

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 3:22 pm

I started my first dual-wielder for a change of pace, and I'm having some problems to make it work offensively as nicely as, say, a two-handed weapon.

For example, when attacking with each weapon alternatively the speed is just a little bit quicker than attacking with a single weapon, and only after getting the +speed perk. When attacking with both hands at the same time, the damage is of course doubled, but I noticed I can't move while attacking and also get stuck for a time after finishing the move, making me very vulnerable. Finally, when power attacking with both weapons the damage seems to be quadrupled, but it consumes serious amounts of stamina and usually my target is pushed back after the initial two attacks, making the third and fourth attacks usually miss.

So, can you guys give me some tips of the best moves and strategies to use while dual-wielding to get the most out of this style?

Thanks.

If you want to kill everything with one devastating duel strike just drop the difficulty down.

Best strategy with dual wield is to pump as many perks into them as you can and just go berserk on everything. Run up to enemy, perform DW power attack, rinse and repeat. Once you level your damage high enough it'll take only a few hits to kill elder dragons.

Having done it, it's an incredibly boring way to play though imo..

EDIT: Up to expert level I was one shotting anything that wasn't a dragon by level 25. On master it took a few more hits but once you get the perks which add bonus damage to dual power attacks (+50% IIRC) then you start wasting everything. Just use the 'become ethereal' shout to get close and then kick some butt..

Agree with this.

Except the "boring" part. Kind of.

Dual Wielding is all about the power attacks. Regular attacks won't do much. Pump up stamina. That will be your best friend. With power attacks, you can take most things out in only a couple strikes.

Is it boring? Depends on how you look at it.

I'm of both minds about it. On one hand, I feel like a badass running through an entire Stormcloak fort chopping down Stormcloak after Stormcloak. One the other hand, there are only a couple specific types of opponents that cause me problems..

It only takes 3 perks to max dual-wielding.

I say take em... and use it... but don't be afraid to go sword and spell, or sword and shield either.

In short....

your right hand should always have a 1-handed weapon

Your left you may prefer an off-hand weapon... but ESPECIALLY in the early game (before you have all the perks) you may prefer even just a healing spell in the off hand to offset the damage (and help level your restoration while you're at it).

Playing heal + sword is fairly close in style in that you can't block so need to dodge around enemy attacks and threat zones... while offering you the safety of a ready heal.

That's prolly my best advice......

Oh... and you might wanna pickup Respite :P

If you want to kill everything with one devastating duel strike on Master just choose perks that give you higher damage output, level up alchemy, enchantment and smithing, enchant four items with bonuses to one-handed damage, upgrade your weapons, make potions to add more damage.

There, fixed. Look http://pix.playground.ru/download/gallery/276634/849737dccb86dd975b9b22cf84e5f545.jpg for proof. Those stats are without potions though.
