We need a Workshop patch on PC !

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 6:02 am

Hello,

Why is there no patch for workshop mode on PC for the players using an azerty keyboard ???

We can only move backward and right... not really comfortable to create a settelment...

Seriously, the game is now 2 months old and there is still no patch for that while the issue is known till the first day the game went out !

You are ruinng the housing part of all players using an azerty keyboard.

By the way, that kind of issue should have been solved in alpha test.... it's so obvious to detect .... Or at least the day after the game went out as a critical patch, but.... 2 months...and nothing....

Do you care about your players or do you just want to sell your games and make money ??

Well when you use an odd keyboard layout, there will be issues. I doubt anyone at Bethesda even owns such a keyboard. But they may have misplaced the patch, right next to the m key. :bunny:

On a more serious note, you may just have to wait for the construction kit to fix certain ui issues.

I never heard of an AZERTY keyboard until now. Looking it up in Google indicates that it is the de facto standard keyboard layout in France.

Why not try to manually change the keybindings in the game? Doing a bit of research, Bethesda never released a patch to address the "AZERTY issue" in Oblivion, Fallout 3, or Skyrim. I doubt they will release one for Fallout 4.

The QWERTZ keyboard layout is used more widely in Europe than the AZERTY keyboard and Bethesda is not given any love to those people either. I suspect they somehow figured out how to rebind keys though. Then again, it is a less "radical" keyboard layout since it appears only the "Y" and "Z" key were swapped.

I am not affected by this omission myself, however, this would be the piss poorest excuse for oversight ever.

Azerty keyboards are used in Belgium, Holland and Spain too, and probably most of the non english speaking countries in Europe.

We always remap our keyboard touches for the games, we don't complain for that, it's easy, but for Fallout 4, the remap is ok for the normal game, but it loses the remap we did when we come in workshop mode and there is no other way to change it.

It should be very easy to patch this but they don't...

It affect thousands of EU players, it's a shame, really.

Try to play Fallout 4 in workshop mode with only S and D. You won't use the workshop more than 5 mminutes :)

I guess Wkipedia needs to update the list of countries that uses the AZERTY keyboard then.

Ahh... if keybindings does not work in workshop mode, then that would be a legitimate complaint from players who are not using a QWERTY / QWERTZ keyboard.

I suppose a possible "solution" could be to change the keyboard region within Windows to make the keyboard act like QWERTY, but that would be a hassle and like make things a bit confusing at first.

That would be an excellent solution if you could remap Workshop keys, but you can't.

yes, change the region of the keyboard is the only option we have for the moment.

But it's like a pain in the ass to do it every time you want to play and remove it when you stop !

It would take 1 hour for a Bethesda programmer to fix it, I don't know why they don't...., and they won't answer here i guess....

I could imagine some Canadians, as well as some french speaking nations in Africa, would use azerty keyboards as well. Here in Denmark, by far, the most used, is qwerty tho. I will also assume, that bethesda must be aware of different keyboard layouts, unless they don't play Fallout games in Asia....

Greekland and Russia neither lol

But i suppose they have the same problem. If not, Bethesda just failed for the qwerty keyboards...

If you are going to use a weird keyboard layout, why not use the all superior DVORAK layout?

If azerty keyboards are ignored by Bethesda, i guess DVORAK layout is completely unknown lol

Uhm... Isn't Bethesda an American company? If so, why would they design for every possible permutation of a keyboard outside of the standard QWERTY? I can't imagine that it would be easy.

The did just release the change to allow for the remapping of keys, yes?

Are there any other types of keyboards other than QWERTY & AZERTY? Maybe someone can write a mod or script to automatically remap translations between keyboards?

Sorry. I've never even heard of AZERTY, but, then again, I am an American and travel with my standard QWERTY keyboard laptop, even when traveling in Europe.

Because they sell games outside of the US?

Fellow lefty arrow user here. I don't even build settlements except to make sure they have the basics because of this. Laziness is why this has no remapping. I get that the game is a console port but if you're going to sell the game on PC at the very least you should be able to make it so all the controls are redefined. This also affects conversations for lefties too. I missed quite a few conversations before I downloaded a mod that actually tells the dialogue and is in number format like a proper cRPG.

I'm not really arguing that that would be a good thing, but, most American products sold outside the US do not cater to the foreign audience on the whole. It is definitely an American thing to expect the foreign consumer and audience to adjust to their product, not the other way around. An example would be American movies shown in foreign countries - rarely is it the American producers that provide the subtitles or dubbing, that is done almost exclusively by the foreign distributors.

We also have to consider the level of revenue generated by foreign sales.

Those are statistics that I would like to see. I suspect that, if Beth actually anolyzed the sales numbers and saw just what a large percentage of their purchasers were from countries outside the US/Canada, they might give stronger consideration to some accommodation. I know ZENI has with ESO and it's European servers.

I've screwed up a number of conversations due to the arrow keys being for both movement and dialogue menu. Like when they're walking away from you as you're trying to talk to them, then follow and accidentally pick the no.1 option (up arrow) when you get in range. Much frustration.

They don't have to design for every possible keyboard out there. All they need to do, is making all keys (including menu keys) free to bind as users see fit. The remapping patch they did, screwed up more than it fixed to be honest. Bethesda has always been lousy at UI, and don't care about it (just look at SkyUI, lol)

Any failure to cater to alternate keyboard layouts is a poor oversight at best. At worst it is, as you say, typical American self-centeredness. It's an unwise way to do business in a global market. It should be on the top of the fix list if it isn't.

If only it was possible to make the game's keys rebindable freely, so layouts would not be an issuOH, WAIT! :teehee:

It is kind of adorable, how BGS makes multi-million dollar games that always sell well and win plenty of awards (except this one ) and yet be so incompetent in basic UI desing ^_^
