Ok, so i bought a new mainboard, memory and cpu yesterday as my old mainboard had a defect...


my new cpu is an amd x3 445, 4gb of ddr1033 memory and an am3 mainboard. As i own a 7900gs with 256 mb ram, i need a new graphics card. I am planning to buy a hd 6850.

What i need to know now. do you think this card is enough to play skyrim at high all to full? I need to know that because i dont want to buy a new card next year again...

And please devs feel free to answer also! Maybe you could just tel l me with which card you play skyrim at the moment!?

Whats with asking devs about if you're PC can run skyrim? They arnt gonna say or even know.

Get that new vid card and you should run it fine imo on some kind of settings.

I got a i7 860, 8 GB DDR3 and a HD 5850.

I am happy as long as I can run it smooth at medium settings.

It'll run just fine on max setting if you skip anti-aliasing.

Unfortunately there's no way to know for certain until they release the minimum and recommended specs for Skyrim. As its not out for 10 months I would say your card should be able to run Skyrim respectably on medium with maybe a few bells and whistles on top when its released. But thats just speculation and my gut feeling really.

Well the 8650 is 2.75 hz and you have a pretty decent cpu. You have a computer that can probably run skyrim but I'm not sure you can run Skyrim on full details without having some kind of lagging, I'm expecting the graphics to be insane at full detail and the specs you just I would think would have a few issues with playing Crysis at full.



Uggh what would the point of running it at full without AA? Also, shadows couldn't be on full since it eats more processing power than anything else, even AAA, which I love.

Medium? Hell you could probably max it out.

Triple core processor OP? I'd upgrade it to an X4 Black Edition, and overclock the cr*p out of it. AND update the videocard. I'd recommend a 5870, as it's just as powerful if not more so and I'm guessing will be cheaper after the 6000 series takes off.

I have a little better specs on my m17x but if yours is a desktop than it will have inherently more power than mine.

I have a desktop, but even with those specs Oblivion lags and stutters. TW2 runs smooth on max settings though. Mafia 2 too, and Crysis. But if the engine is poorly optimized, I doubt it will run smooth.

you should be fine with that setup for a while, a 6850 should be ok to run the game on high, as well as your processor since its 3.1ghz and a triple core. the ram could have been 1333 or 1600 though, and its ddr3 seeing how you have an am3 mainboard.

you by no means have a top of the line setup (except for the 6850 its pretty high up there, if you decide to get one) but it should do well with most games.



however, do not go buy a 6850 right now, if you can hold on to your 7900gs until september or so, there will be newer generation graphics cards coming out, and even if you still decide to get a 6850 at that time, the price will be a lot cheaper :foodndrink:

The lagging and stuttering is Gamebryo it's a commercial engine with terrible programming. Skyrim is running on an engine that Bethesda coded themselves so it shouldn't lag or stutter but I can't say that with 100% accuracy but I have faith in Bethesda. All the things that have plagued the last two TES game that makes everyone think that Beth is terrible at making games, almost all of those things can be traced back to the Gamebryo engine.

i dont want final specs. I just dont want to buy a card now, and then it wont run skyrim on full...

Therefore i should be fine when i buy a card the devs also use right now...

To be 100% sure that your computer will play Skyrim with graphics at maximum settings you will have to wait until the game comes out.

And guess what ?
AMD will release the hd 7XXX series before Skyrim,meaning:

1. There will be even more powerful graphics cards on the market than now.
2. Today's graphics cards will be cheaper.

Just wait.

I am impatient as my 7900gs runs almost no newer game even on medium...

In that case, you'll just have to bite the bullet and buy what you think is going to be future proof...

Maybe. It's not something that could guarantee that you'll be able to run it very comfortably but you know, this is a vast and complex open world and Bethesda is definitely NOT known for a history of games running buttery smooth. High settings may be reachable if you skip AA as someone said and in a non overkill resolution, but i'd just aim a little higher. A 6870 which is a little better than a 5850 might be a better guarantee. But even then, that's if you make the purchase NOW.

Even then, i would SERIOUSLY wait to the next 7000 series which will arrive before Skyrim (around Q2, maybe beginnings of Q3) and buy a mid-high of those or the 6950 that will be the price of the 6850 now.
