Need your help making my long term character.

Post » Wed Jan 12, 2011 5:18 pm

OK so as yall know I endlessly search for my longterm character. I really want to complete all the quests in the game and achieve UBER status. SO Ill share my thoughts and opinions then subject myself to a forum vote that will decide my character.

RACES:

Altmer: Im drawn to this because I think magic is the most useful set of skills in the game, and an altmer has the best end game do to the Magicka bonus. However they look a little rediculous.

Argonian: Argonians are cool but I feel like everybody plays with an Argonian and I always try to do something a little diferent. Id have to have a really cool take on it.

Bosmer: I like Bosmer, however as a guy that is 6ft 3 I feel odd playing one, and Bosmer males are extremely annoying. However the females are pretty hot. *shrugs*

Breton: Another class that is really excellent but again I feel like EVERYBODY plays a Breton.

Dunmer: Im pretty much set against a Dunmer. I just dont care for them at all. Id need to hear a really good reason.

Imperial: I like Imperials because I think I look closest to one. Svedlin has always been an Imperial. The problem is that I dont feel like the Imperial race offers anything special in the long run. I probably lean to this race a little more than others.

Khajiit: They look fantastic and I like them in game. The problem is that in RL I am allergic to felines, so I feel weird playing as one.

Nord: Vikings, I like Vikings but Im not a viking by any means. Im definitely a beta-male and I dont have the machismo to play a nord. Plus I HATE being cold.

Orc: Orcs are pretty cool. I probably have Orcs tied with Imperials.

Redguard: I tried this out a few times, and it looks good on paper then never pans out for me.

In synopsis. I like Imperials and Orcs. However given good reasons I could be swayed.

Birthsigns:
This comes down to pretty much

Apprentice: Magicka Bonus with quirky weakness.
Atronach: Probably the best sign in the game.
The Lady: As a crossdresser this has a pretty big draw if Im trying to simulate myself in game.
The Steed: I feel speed is the most noticable stat in the game. Your movement speed is very obvious and I like the Idea of being really great at something right away. With certain races your speed can start at 70.

Attributes

Strength and Endurance are pretty much a lock unless I go with a pure mage in which case it would be Intelligence and willpower, or I go with an Argonian or Bosmer and take speed.

Skills:
It basically comes out like this

Pure Mage: Stock mage class.

or I pick one skill for each attribute and wind up with:

Blade or Blunt (depends on race)
Armorer
Athletics
Marksmen or Sneak (race dependant)
Mercantile or Illusion (Id hear cases for both)
Conjuration
Destruction or Alteration (again Id hear arguments for both.

I make so many characters but these are the returning themes. I hope by laying out my thought process that somebody can see what it is Im really going for that keeps eluding my grasp.

Have at it.

The character I have spent my most time with is an Imperial, because I can relate to them so well.

As for class, I picked Assassin, because they just appeal to me. (I mean, you can see that from the username :P)

I didn't even have a back-story until after I had completed everything, and every quest-line.

Really though, you don't need to put so much thought into it, just do what feels right.

I've noticed, you seem to like Knightly-Hero types. So go for an Imperial Knight. Don't make any decisions based on stats.

Yeah for the most part I do enjoy the knightly hero types. but after a bad day I totally want to join the DB and kill some people. My characters are conflicted like that lol.

Belevie it or not at this second now i am in your position hopefully making my long run character,

for your position , imperial or orc, my main is imperial but i wish i had chosen orc for the coolness and stat differences.

i would just make and orc with the 1 for each attribute thing u have going, and birthsign of steed just for the run of a fast orc that can do everything :)

Seeing as you like Imperials so much, but also think that magic is insanely useful, I would recommend going with a SpellSword, maybe something like this:

Zakarius Svedlin
Imperial
Mage or Atronach, you could also make Warrior work but I wouldn't recommend it
Custom Class: Blademage
Spec: Combat/Magic, whichever you plan to focus on more
Attributes: Intelligence + Strength/Endurance
Majors:
Blade/Blunt
Armorer
Light Armor/Acrobatics if you don't want the hit to Spell Effectiveness
Security to limit levelling if you want, or Conjuration if not
Restoration
Alteration
Illusion/Destruction, depending on if you want your blade/blunt to be your only damage dealing source.

So... tell me what you think!

Getting angry and killing is understandable, but you don't change your faction out of a quick impulse. :P

Maybe just a warrior type, with no alliances. Like a mercenary, or woodsman..

What about a Khajit that doesn't like/is scared of other Khajit? Your allergy to cats can be translated to prejudice towards others of his/her own species. Perhaps your Khajit also wishes to be another race? Or believes himself/her wasn't meant to be a Khajiit? It can be an interesting roleplay experience and make it unique enough to remain a long term character.

I was thinking more of a Don Quitote type thing.

Perhaps my Khajiit is allergic to his own fur so he started tinkering in alchemy to no avail later discovered that skooma provides a temporary cure. However when he takes too much skooma he blacks out and does dark brotherhood stuff. I think this could be a really funny and complex character.

Im still taking other ideas however Im liking the khajiit idea more and more.

Good Good, i had a khajiit once and he was level 14 (on my xbox until the graphics card melted, but glad it did because ps3 eats it alive :)) he was archer hand to hand if i can remember right with light armour, his acrobatics were 60 roughly so he could do backflips etc.

from this alergic to self khajiit thing it sounds very interesting, maybe you never speak to another khajiit, and your a skooma addict.

maybe we can make your long term from here :) :obliviongate:

You could make a Khajiit afraid of the dark, imagine this, a folk adapted to night-survival, and here comes this wuss...

Or a hydro-phobic Argonian. Can't get near water, afraid of drownnig.

Freezing Nord too.

Seriously, though, you have to think what you like seeing your character doing in the game. Fighting, socialising, curing, researching stuff...

I have no shame at all to tell that my prefered character is a Breton female Shadow Assassin. I actually have a good background story for her, it is fun to play her with stealth and deceit tactics aiming at rulers, nobility and imperial guards. But it is also great to have her walk some places in thong and high heels, talking to a bunch of low-lifes at pubs... (obviously in this case i need mods to make her look as sensual as possible).

I like this one better than the first. And it also sounds like you are getting excited about your khajiit character. You want some backstory? Make him/her a member (officially or unofficially) of the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Renrijra_Krin, and always carry around a copy of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Ahzirr_Traajijazeri.

Thats what I did with my character - I found a post online that gave me the "ideal" build that could do any quest. Race is Altmer and two of the primaries are Blade and Destruction. I will find the link

Here's a challenge for you:

Altmer Apprentice with the vanilla Barbarian class, at normal difficulty, and Dead is Dead. Finish at least the Main Quest with that character. :)

Altmer apprentice sounds like an interesting character because of the weaknesses. There really is no point in taking any magic resistance... just play to your strengths and stay the hell away from magical projectiles.

If you're doing this as a stock mage (i.e., no Athletics major and no Combat specialty), but your goal is to be UBER fast, it's a can of worms. You need to do some serious running. I did some lunacy with athletics in my uber character (the one in my avatar). He took Combat specialization, but not athletics as a major, and ran for 70 hours straight in the prison cell, so that he'd emerge from the dungeons at level 1 but with 100 Athletics. He trained Athletics to 255 thereafter with drain-and-train, and he can really zip around now.
