I need your opinion.

Hey everyone! I am working on a mod, and its progressing nicely, but I had a question. I really really wan't to make a WIP thread about it, and start generating some 'hype' over it, so I can slowly build it until its release, and have more than 3 people want to play it. :P But I was wondering when you guys would consider too soon to make one. It is a quest mod and so far it adds about 30-45 minutes of gameplay (depending on how fast you do it/playstyle) and is about 30% complete. I plan to release it in mid August. So would now be too soon to make a WIP thread about it, and put up some screen shots and start getting people together about it, or should I go ahead and do it. I just don't wan't to spend alot of time making a thread with a mod not nearly complete enough and just have people think I am stupid for doing so. Thanks for everyone who answers. :)

Sweet another quest! I'd work until it's about 40-50% or until you have some nice screenshots. Everybody goes crazy over screen shots. Or until (if) you get to a point where you become uninspired and not want to finish, post a thread and get some motivation goin.

Alright, and I do have screenshots. So I guess I will work on making a WIP thread for my mod. I wish I got more than two opinions, but thanks guys. :thumbsup:

I mostly fight with the same dilemma. It's pretty demotivating if you make a WIP thread and nothing happens in it except your own posts. That's one of the reasons why my 'Bingham Street' series is still on ice and I don't work on part II in the moment. On the other side FNNCQ and Sybill has a great response on nexus in the comments thread (I released betas and also added features).
Netherthelesss I would say go for it and simply don't expect to much feedback. So you get a better feeling if the feedback finaly rolls in and it's interesting to read the own progress.
Btw. I am pretty interested what you are coming up with and I promise to post ;) .

Awsome, thanks Ricker and sesom. It sounds like overall, provided I have the screenshots :P it would be a good idea to try a WIP thread soon. I of course know it will take a bit, and its my first large scale mod, so I don't expect everyone to be totally in love with it and care a whole bunch. I am just hoping to have some people interested and asking questions. I will write up the thread and work on screenshots and post it within a day or possibly later tonight. Plus even if everyone is not totally into it, I will keep working. I wan't to be a level designer. Its my dream job, so this is for the community, and my portfolio. So everything I make is of the highest quality. (Thats other people saying it, not me being pompous or cocky :P) Well, Thanks everyone! :D

@sesom: I learnt when I was modding Oblivion that it's not the amount of posts that should determine the level of interest - there are a lot of lurkers, myself included - but how many views your thread has had. My first WIP thread hasn't had much in the way of posts in its time, but the amount of views is in the thousands. Most of the posts are by me, but I don't see it as no one being interested in it.
I wasn't going to do one, as I don't do WIP threads, but sometimes you have to :)

Don't make one if your mod is barely started like I did with Children of the Wasteland/Suffer the Children :whistling: . I got sidetracked by actually playing *gasp* Fallout 3.

It's still going to be done, I just need to stop playing and start working on it again.

@ GrayeWofl -My mod is well into creation. I have spent almost 4 months of it so far, and thats slowly working, now I am working very quickly.

I have made the WIP thread, (I didn't have as much to say as expected so it was fast) so go check it out. I have screen shots, as well as a brief description of the story and some detail about it. Thanks everyone for helping, as it seems doing it now, even if few people show too much interest, should be beneficial overall. And I agree with you MystykStar that its views not necissarily posts, because if people look at it, even if they don't say anything, it shows they are interested. Plus I had to make one, the anticipation of whether or not people would like it or show interest is killing me.

@MystykStar
I know this in the meantime. I am also a person who posts rarely and read a lot (typical lurker ;) ). But I had in the beginning with my first mods a pretty hard time.

The only WIP threads that bug me are the ones that are for mods that are little more than a concept written by someone who has only just downloaded the GECK and yet claim to announce a mod that will put all of the DLCs to shame. Other than those, which often mercifully disappear quickly, I say go for it, especially if you are determined to complete your project. I have found that people sometimes provide great ideas that can be incorporated into a mod if it hasn't been completed before you start talking about it.
