needing the console command to remove permanent enchantment

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 11:56 pm

could someone please tell me how to remove a permanent effect using the console? due to an oversight i didn't realise that the "cute elf" circlet is flagged as a quest item and as a result after going to jail now its enchantments are permanent...i've searched everywhere and theres all these information about how to use it to give yourself perma effects but i want to get rid of it!!! also, if possible could you also please tell me after removing the effects, how to make the item function properly again, because obviously now i can't equip it (you cannot equip this item now) and i can't drop it (you cannot drop a quest item)...and yeah i couldn't find this in the console wiki...or maybe i missed it as usual :S

Try Stat Restore. It comes with the UOP as well (startquest UOP in the console). As for how to make it function properly again - which mod does this "cute elf" circlet come from? Might be easiest to uncheck it, make a clean save and then check it again.

it came from the cute elf mod :) it's basically just another elf race mod

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=4405

and i'll try the UOP option.

and i can't exactly make a clean save, because if i uncheck it and go into my game all the meshes and textures for the race will be gone, is it going to be fine making a save of the character which is basically not there? what about the stats etc..

edit: i just tried using that method...i'm not sure exactly how to do it. there are 2 perma enchantments, 1 is spell absorption 5pts other is feather 10pts. in the restore stats menu nothing is related to spell absorption, and there is one related to feather which is encumberance, but if i click on it it says that the encumbrance will be wrong after fixing or something, and i have to drop all the items? :S i'm not sure whether it would actually fix the problem..

isn't there a way to use console to just get rid of an enchantment...the wiki says theres no other way to fix it besides using the console, except nowhere does it say how

What Level is your character ?? (I ask because you are given a new version circlet every 10 levels and the fix would need to be made with the correct level version for you !!

If you are below level 10 -- http://www.4shared.com/file/EHCKQk2K/_2__CuteelfFix.html

In the download you will find 2 new .esp files - (FixedCuteelf11.esp and xxCuteelf11.esp) -- to fix up your problem unpack them to your data folder and then follow these steps :

1-- rename your current Cuteelf11.esp to OrigCuteelf11.esp
2 -- rename the xxCuteelf11.esp to Cuteelf11.esp
3 -- Load your messed up save file
4 -- go into your inventory and put on the circlet (you'll be able to wear it now since I removed the quest item and also removed the enchantments from it !
5 -- Make a new save and exit the game
6 -- go back to your data folder and rerename Cuteelf11.esp to xxCuteelf.esp
7 -- rename FixedCuteelf11.esp to Cuteelf11.esp
8 -- Load your new save
9 -- Go into your inventory and take off and re put on the circlet (to update the enchantments)

Your game is fixed and you can proceed (If you want you can delete the origCuteelf11.esp and the xxCuteelf11.esp as they are no longer needed !!

What I did was first remove the quest item check mark for all versions of the circlet and make the FixedCuteelf11.esp file (This is the one you are keeping and using instead of the original to keep this from happening in the future ( Just be sure not to drop the circlet as they did not put collision on it and if dropped you cannot pick it back up !!-- EDIT : I added a world model to the fixed .esp just in case they are dropped you can now pick them up !) -- THen since this does not fix your current problem I made the xxCuteelf11.esp that removes the enchants from the circlet to be used temporarily to fix your situation and enable making a good save !

Let me know if you are past level 10 as a new xxCuteelf11.esp will need to be made to remove the correct level version of the circlet !! (the one I included is only going to work if you are under level 10 !!!)

I tested it in my game (since I just started a new game a few days ago using a cute elf and would run into this problem soon if it wasn't fixed !!) -- by hitting a guard and going to jail and then making a save after release (and verified I had the problem !) and after doing the above the problem was fixed so it should work if you are under level 10 but if you are past that level PM me and I'll fix the correct version for you !

If you have a save from before you went to jail, you can do that to remove the permanent enchantment if anything else doesn't work.

Also, you may want to have a look at my signature because I have released a mod which prevents this bug from occuring (in Vanilla Oblivion and Shivering Isles at least, other mods can still cause it).

nah the save before i went to jail is just too far back, i'd rather try out the fix than anything, besides JDfan already tested it and found that it works, so i'm gonna bet on that it'll work for me too :D

checked out your mod, and yeah from the description i can see that it fixes the problem in those special instances, but does it fix it if i simply got arrested and went to jail? as far as i'm concerned from now on any quest items which i can carry etc, i'll just change it to nonquest item to prevent this from happening.

No problem - I would have had to do it soon anyway since I was using the race ! -- Let me know if you run into any problem with getting it to work but I've tested it and it worked fine for me so should work properly.

I'm pretty surprised that the problem hasn't been reported in the mod comments since ther are several places in game that it will come up (ie through a nightmare and the sanquine shrine quest) so you'd think it would have been reported.

Well, this is from the readme (relevant bits in bold):
I know that the problem happens in these four vanilla situations:
-Going to jail
-Accepting Harrow's request
-Entering "The Dreamworld"
-During Sanguine's quest
and these two SI situations:
-Equipping the "Ring of Disrobing"
-Going to jail
And hence, only those six situations were fixed.

So yes, my mod does prevent the bug if you simply went to jail. But I guess removing the quest item tag from items is another way of fixing this.

@JDFan
I'm guessing it hasn't been reported because they don't know what the problem is.

Was wondering what you had done to fix them -- does the mod change the arrest script to unequip the quest items it finds equipped on the player before taking them from the inventory or something else ?

Could be but you would think since the circlet is improved every 10 levels that someone that was using the mod would have noticed the efeect getting much stronger than it should beside the not being able to wear the circlet to hide the neck seam afterwards until the next 10 level mark was reached ! - since there are several places that the bug will be encountered as you mention.

just on this topic, i'm surprised that a general fix hasn't been made to this problem. there are so many quest items that surely heaps of people have run into the same problem before, besides from reloading from an earlier save, there seems to be no other way around the problem at the moment. the only thing that can be found relating to perma enchantments is how to exploit it, but i'm sure lots of people rather get rid of them as they can pretty much mess up the char if you are role playing.

ps i haven't had time today to try out the fix, will do first thing tomorrow

Be sure to post back if it works for you -- I sent an E-mail to the mod creator letting him know of the problem so would like to verify that the fix worked for you also in case he needs a fix made for others affected by the problem (since it would be fairly easy to expand this fix for the other 5 versions of the circlet ) - in case others do start reporting the problem (In reading through the mod pages on Tesnexus the circlet and a few other things are fairly new to the mod (last version update was in April) so it makes a bit more sense that it has not been reported ( the original race mod has been around for quite awhile but there have been additions made !)

That's exactly it. I modified the "go to jail" script (and the five other situations' scripts) so that it unequips every item the player is wearing before calling the RemoveAllItems command.

Cool - that was what I was thinking it did since that was about the only method I could think of that would fix the problem - and the benefit of that is it will work for all mod items as well - will be adding it to my game !

It's any enchantment from any quest item when the item is removed from your inventory.

The Mage's Guild quest in Bruma causes the same problem.

??? Surely you mean the Bravil Mages Guild quest, "Through a Nightmare, Darkly"?
