Negative Impacts of the Settlement Pip Boy Bug

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 10:07 am

So i think the bug is quite well known by now; for those who don't know, there appears to be a bug which results in the Pip Boy displaying incorrect statistics about your settlement(s). What I would like to know is whether this is purely an information bug or a deeper bug which screws up the settlement mechanics. For instance if your settlement actually has say 40 defense, food and water, but your Pip Boy is showing 0 for all three, would your settlement loose happiness when you are away or is it just displaying incorrect information?

If your defense is lower in Pip Boy then would an attack on your settlement would be more likely? Also can settlers die if your food/water falls too low or does it just result in a lower happiness rating or do they just leave?

Ye, this is quite annoying. It usually goes back to what I think it's suppose to be after sleeping or waiting/fast traveling. I don't grow food in my main settlements but I supply them with food through supply routes from my farm settlements. So the only way for me to know if my farms are producing enough food is to keep an eye on the workshop data but unfortunately with this bug I can't rely on that. I guess I could count my total amount of settlers compared to total amount of food produced all over the map, but that's quite annoying.

It also has other issues mixed in that conflate the confusion. For example, one of the stats may seem bugged but is just poorly explained is number of settlers.

Wearing charisma gear boosts your actual settler max, which seems odd. I get why charisma gear should help with better merchant prices but it is odd that your settler count will go up and down as well.

The problem with this is unless you perma wear your charisma gear, and never ever take it off, what happens is you gain settlers, then lose them. All the time, up and down. and when you look at pipboy stats, unless you know this, you'll wonder why it is showing incorrect info for defense, etc and just assume the settler count is another bugged stat.

But it's not, it is a poor implementation with poor explanation in game text. Add all these up with actual bugged stats, and you start to never trust what your pioboy says, to the point when your settlement really was attacked and defenses need repairing, you dont go there to do it as you think it is just bugged stats.

It is worst of both worlds - correct stats you assume are wrong. And wrong stats misleading you into distrusting even more the actual stats that are real.

It turns out the temporary solution is to remove all tvs in your settlement. It sounds crazy, but apparently the code of the tvs is messing up settlements, and making it so resources and defense values don't work after leaving the settlement.

Some also say that radios and juke boxes cause the same problem, but from what I can tell, its just tvs.
