Nehrim is coming out this weekend!

Post » Fri Aug 27, 2010 5:44 am

I found this on the nehrim.de data page today:

The English version of Nehrim will be released this weekend.

http://nehrim.de/dataEV.html

I'm honestly more excited for this mod than I am for Fallout: New Vegas.

If you haven't heard of Nehrim, you've got to watch this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGkqjabgVks

This mod looks absolutely amazing. It might just be the biggest, and best mod of all time.

I had heard about this, but I'm really unsure the differences. Of course, it has different characters and quests, but the environments and stuff seem similar...

It's just a mod. It's not flaunting itself as a new game or anything. As far as I know they've built the gameworld by hand. Supposedly none of it was randomly generated.

Well, of course, it's a mod. Think of it as a whole new game, but with the same art style.

It's only because they re-used a lot of vanilla assets. It's much easier to make something like a Total conversion if you don't have to build your own meshes and textures.

Yeah, kinda figured that. I don't know, they both look so good. :shakehead:

EDIT: Of course, I've only seen the trailer. :P Hope it lives up to what it promises.

Nehrim is like a new game. Except for a few graphics replacers or something I wouldn't bring your normal set of mods with you...

Is this mod available in English? Everything in that trailer looks like it's in a different language that I don't speak.
And holy crap, 155 gigs? My god.

Finally! I've played through the first part of the German version and it's fabulous. Forget everything you know about Oblivion - it's not Oblivion. It's a new game built with the Oblivion engine and resources. It has different classes and a different levelling system. It does have some Oblivion mods incorporated into it already. For example, it uses WZ's inventory. There's a few other things as well - you can find them in the credits in the readme.

But the story is simply amazing and the voice acting is professional (ie professional actors who donated their time). It was also done in a sound studio. The English version will have the German voices with English subtitles.

It's 1.55 GB

I think in some countries its normal to use a comma instead of a period.

So 1,55 = 1.55

Hell, they do that in Canada in french. Plus, if it was a comma to make it easier to know how big it is(by counting the number of digits), it wouldn't have shown up in a three digit number.

Especially if you're used to commas being used to separate numbers into units of thousand the improve readability (if that makes sense...), for example: 100,000.23 or 1000,000,000.

[/offtopic]

Nehrim looks like it would be worth a play... if I had Oblivion :P. Maybe when I get around to picking it up.

At first I was thought "mega-lame!", but then I was like, "eh. Subs are better than dubs anyway".

In this case, I'm glad they went with subtitles. The German actors are quite passionate and that would get ruined with dubbing. It might be just me, but I liked the German :) I did take a German course or two, so I do have a bit of familiarity with the language - although I couldn't keep up with Nehrim

When its a good translation with good actors, a dub is at least as equal to subtitles. Doesn't always work out that way, though :(.

I've watched a few more videos, and I think I'd much rather play this through before FCOM.

I think I'll play it on a vanilla game to avoid any incompatibilities. This looks more than incredible to me, even with the German. That just adds to it, I think.

Guys, this isn't a mod, it's a complete replacer. You can't play it with Oblivion mods. It's called a total conversion. It will make a separate copy of your Oblivion install and customize it from there. You will need a vanilla install of Oblivion for it to copy (I think). You'll have to look at the readme to verify that. If you do have mods installed, it might still be able to copy what it needs. The only similarity it has to Oblivion are the meshes and textures. There are no Khajiits or Argonians. It doesn't take place in Cyrodiil. There's no emperor or Oblivion crisis... It also doesn't look like vanilla Oblivion - they did incorporate a lot of visual improvements right into it.

There's no FCOM, OOO, MMM, Fran's or anything like that here. I think it will give you about 60 hrs of gameplay.

EDIT: Actually to be fair, apparently some modding of Nehrim is possible. This is a link to the http://sureai.de/forum/viewforum.php?f=81 and they do have a modding section.

I've played the game and found it very good. Great work on the quests (didn't do all side quests, but the whole MQ), not everything is a "fetch this, kill that" style quest and there are some very creative ones in there. Even though it uses just Oblivion's resources (and some mods), the world they built is very well done and quite different. And I like the levelling system - similar to that of Gothic, for anyone who played it.

Anyway, it's well worth a play through!
